So lovely to get away from politics and listen to the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ!

@FireMouse563 жыл бұрын
@@asensibleyoungman2978 I think you've completely misunderstood the comment. Religion in general can be political yes, but there's nothing innately political in listening to a Christmas Carol about the birth of Jesus.

Away in a manger No crib for a bed The little Lord Jesus Laid down His sweet head The stars in the bright sky Looked down where He lay The little Lord Jesus Asleep on the hay The cattle are lowing The Baby awakes But little Lord Jesus No crying He makes I love You, Lord Jesus Look down from the sky And stay by my side Until morning is nigh Be near me, Lord Jesus I ask You to stay Close by me forever And love me I pray Bless all the dear children In Your tender care And fit us for heaven To live with You there

I’m sure the choir sounds better now than it has for quite a few years. I’ve heard a few recent performances and the boys voices seem brighter than before. That could just be better sound reproduction, or it could be the choir are singing better, not sure.

There are just a good number of naturally beautiful voices in the choir which is to an extent a matter of luck at the best of times - as a student at King's and regular attendee at the chapel, both of the soloists in this video stun and stand out even more in person
@el7284 Жыл бұрын
@@sneezeey how was Hyde's first Christmas service in person? The sound quality shook me; I'm shivering right now just remembering it.
@sneezeey Жыл бұрын
@@el7284 Well I haven't been here long enough to have an in-person comparison with the pre-Hyde era, but services here are always chillingly beautiful and the tonal quality is especially evident in person, in part because of the slower, unhurried tempo compared to many other college choirs I've heard (eg St John's, where I attended one of their two Advent services). Hope you can come visit us and attend a service one day!
@el7284 Жыл бұрын
@@sneezeey an interesting contrast. St John's under George Guest used to be noted for its more genteel approach compared to King's at the time. I think Hyde even made note of it, though I may be wrong. As for the services, they are high on my bucket list. If I ever make enough money to be in the orbit of Cambridge, I'll definitely pay a visit.

It seems there are two versions of this song. The one that I know, that sounds like Carrie Underwood's rendition, and this one, which the first time I heard it was while watching Mr. Bean years ago. I like this version more than the one I know. Is there a specific name given to the different versions?
