Having lived by the Air National Guard in Connecticut for most of my life it was a pleasure having the A-10 Warthogs as our neighbors. These were amazing planes with a proven track record and should have never been retired. It was also amazing with these P&WA JT9D Engines how quiet there were flying overhead at a low altitude. Much to my surprise when I lived in Tokoroa New Zealand, to see an RC Scale Model of the A-10. It was awesome to watch that plane fly.

@@henripatoir6578 Well after 32 years of my father working for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and specifically assigned to engineering for the JT9D Project I am telling you that you are half wrong. The JT9D was used on both aircrafts. If GE got into the picture down the road, I was never aware of it.

Remember 1990, Desert Storm well under way. One of my American cousins' was stationed at USAF Alconbury, Cambridgeshire. Shannon was in ATC and my Dad and I went to visit him. He got us a special pass to get into the base with him. The tension was palpable: huge double-barreled 50 ml machine gun, armour vehicle mounted, manned and trained on the entrance as we went in. Got to go up to the control tower and watched the A-10's taking off and landing. I had a PPL so was well excited by this experience. My Dad found it fascinating too- ex WW2 6th Airbourne veteran. Went through D-Day, France, Germany, Palestine. Me, an easy damn life.

Everything about the A-10 is designed for slow, low-level flying in order to fulfill its role as a provider of support to ground troops - from its straight wings (as opposed to swept back) to both its engines located high up on the fuselage (as additional protection from enemy small-arms fire). Can't believe they were talking about retiring this bird. If you're an infantry soldier getting your position overrun by the enemy, the sight of an A-10 up in the horizon must feel like your prayers have been answered. And the distinctive *BBRRRRRRRRTTT!!!* of its nose cannons must sound like music to your ears.

A10 may be older, but she's still effective and deadly against tanks, and other ground targets. The 30mm Gatling gun mounted at the front with those Shark Teeth coming at you is enough to terrify anyone and can do some serious damage.

The A10 is only deadly against tanks that are employed alone. Tanks backed by vehicles with SAM capabilities are a nightmare for the A10.

Man I love the F16 so much I saw it here in Australia at the airshow. That thing SCREAAAAMS like a wild animal. The only thing louder was B1 lancer. I also saw the F22 and thats pretty insane to watch what it can do but the F16 is just sooo beatiful and elegant and timeless and just perfect =) And it screams like hell.

Once stood in front of an A10 at an airshow over here in the UK back in 1992. Just after the start of the first Gulf War, no way would I want to be on the receiving end of that gattling gun!

I dont what happened to hats. 4.15... I can tell you that when I was in the RAF (1971) no hats were allowed on the flight line. Or in the hanger with the engines revving. That included woolly hats too. If theres a gust of wind or whatever and that hat works loose near the intake....and includes being by my side helping with straps etc.... that hat might come off and go straight into the intake. Bang...all hell breaks loose. No hats on the flight line. What happened since the 70's?😮😮😮😮
