Yes, an update or a DLC with a lot more customized buildings and units is something I would be really interested in.

Oh I used parts of the first set too in my mod! Turns out AbeJin is very nice and allows use of their architecture without issue. Porting it to Ultra High Definition is possible too. I contacted Juggernaut too, they allow others to use it as well. Gotta give credit for their talent, they made a lot of amazing graphics. Porting their work for the old HD edition of the game towards something that looks good in Definitive Edition is also pretty doable with some tweaks. Abejin's apprentice is also working on a few architecture sets for Native American civs for an upcoming mod they're making, got to speak with them a little and got some previews, it's pretty impressive.

Yes, I'm starting to think some of these mods are among the best-kept secrets of AoE2. I know of Juggernaut from the forums and I've heard of Abejin, but the other names are new to me, and much of their work seems almost invisible to the average player. Or even people like myself who have been around almost since day 1, but mostly disconnected from the modding communities.

@@AdmiralWololo If you like to discover their work, there are countless architecture mods that they made for the HD version of the game that you can still find on the steam workshop.

They used the Rise of Nations Korean building set. I would love to see more buildings with black tiled roofs or orange roofs for the Chinese.
@AdmiralWololo2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I can see this looking weird if you're very familiar with Rise of Nations. Something similar to this but with a different color scheme and more based on AoE2 design conventions would be excellent.
@edspace.2 ай бұрын
Definitely like the idea of regional architecture, and I recognized the Korean architecture from Rise of Nations in some of the mods (and if they don't have GUI artists on hand like the main studio does it would be difficult to make completely new graphical assets). I also wonder about unique monasteries and perhaps multiple ones available based on what religion is picked (a feature the Wars of Liberty mod for Age of Empires III had) since while the Reformation is somewhat beyond the time frame of the game the medieval world was a lot less religiously homogeneous than 19th century Romantic Nationalists managed to convince the world, especially as various folk traditions mixed with larger religions (e.g. Maypoles originated from Pagan customs and were carried on in England up till the 17th century or the Anglo-Saxon of planting a sapling in a grave which started to die out in the nobility after the Norman Conquest but carried on in the lower classes until Oliver Cromwell outlawed the practice) and religion played an important political role so perhaps there could be a tithe mechanic (like export in Age of Empires III) whereby giving some resource production to the "Mother Church" allows the recruitment of special units and technologies.

The fact that HD has so many unique architecture mods is why i hesitated so much with switching to definitive. I would absolutely love it if more civs got new official architecture sets. Vikings in particular i feel really need it, besides Incas.
@AdmiralWololo2 ай бұрын
Yes, it's strange because I would never go back to HD because of how good the DE graphics are, but it's a lot more limited in terms of available mods/graphics. Hopefully some of the HD sets inspire new DE sets

Really nice to see other Architecture mods existing , really liked that east asian set even tho i never seen it before i will definetly browse it , i would love to see them update it further , btw i am sure that on campaign you are allowed to add data mods to use them for campaign its a choice in the map of the campaign i know that cause i recently played a campaign to test our Byz mod as well so it does work

There are enough Chinese historical events spanning the time span of AoE2 that a single DLC can focus entirely on China, like the India DLC, featuring different dynasties and different architectural styles too. While not a focus, the Mongol and Korea should get new art sets since their histories are intertwined with China, so certain campaign would encounter them as well. On another note, a Mulan campaign would be interesting.
@AdmiralWololo18 күн бұрын
Yeah, there are a lot of new add-ons I'd like, but China is probably the most neglected area relative to its historical potential.
@DoubtXАй бұрын
I'd like it if they added a few variants to the basic units shared across all civilizations. Maybe just one variant for each continent. Having an obviously European man-at-arms for an Asian civilization is weird. But It would be important that they are all easily recognizable as the same unit, which might be too much to ask.
@SvanTowerMan2 ай бұрын
I honestly think the Koreans and Mongols could keep the current set they have, as the Imperial Age buildings resemble their architecture very well. Thus, the Chinese, the Vietnamese, and the new hypothetical East Asian civs could have the new Chinese set, making it much more well-rounded without making the Japanese unique in terms of architecture (I don't like any civ officially having unique architecture).

You mentioned that the Juggernaut mod is not campaign compatible but that is not entirely true You can use that mod in campaigns, just remember that it will be considered as a cheat code and achievements will be disabled. If those are not a concern to you, you can select the data mod in the bottom row when you open a campaign screen and then play it.

Devs should fix the previous dlc first. I mean they should add new civs to victors & vanquished dlc. Vikings were the best candidate to split this civ into 3 like Danes, norvegians and Swedes. Another dlc could be about Slavs and here yet again this civ could be splited. Slavs truth be told should be called Rus since boyars were Russian nobles. I wouldn’t mind if they splitted them into 3 as well and I mean into Rus, Moravians and Wallachians. Some campaigns would benefit from it.
@andresperedo12752 ай бұрын
I think we have more than enough european civs. You can always split them more, but there are other parts of the world tremendously underrepresented
@RLDragonStrider2 ай бұрын

Why they should've add more civs in that DLC? It was specified that It would be and campaign only, that could've been great if It were full campaigns and completly new, not mods

Unique castles to each civ, more regional monk skins and maybe split medditerain architecture to two groups. Spanish+portuguese+italians+sicilians and romans+byzantines+armenians+georgians to other group. And change the language for Byzantines to Greek. It''s 25 years late.
