Well done both the greenhouse and the video. I have a similar GH with a similar cooling setup that has worked well for several years. I put my intake vents on the upper part of my GH and later had to move them down fo9r them to work properly. The high school greenhouse I used until I retired had barrels that were filled with stones about the size of baseballs. We had a small fan that forced air through these stones 24/7 during the cooler days of the year which warmed the stones during the day and warmed the GH during the night. The key was to have the intake to this system as near the top of the Gh as possible to obtain the warmest air during the day. The barrels were on their sides and under the plant benches on each side of the GH. There was a thermostat on that system also. I think if I were setting that system up today, I would use wooden boxes instead of the barrels. There also was a small auxiliary heater that helped when needed. The school was located in Northen Piedmont of NC.

Your GH is very nice. I have been looking online to see about how some greenhouses are vented at the roofline. I have a GH that is Amish built. It is very nice, very sturdy. But, it has NO roof vent. I have bought a fan/vent, and installed it too. But, it can only do so much. And, I will be doing my best to try to put up a shadecloth that is 40% shade ability too. THEN, I have a fan that I have facing that electric ventilation fan. That fan/vent that I had bought and installed is a fan/ vent that is at the top of the roofline at the back of the GH. I really do LOVE my greenhouse, BUT, It just gets SO HOT sometimes. I have some shadecloth that I want to put up on the roof. But, I had actually had shadecloth up there before, and it hadn't cooled it off. The Shadecloth I have now is WHITE, and that shadecloth I had up before was BLACK. SO, I will admit that I may have screwed up even thinking that ANY shadecloth could have or would have cooled my GH off, BUT, MAYBE the WHITE SHADECLOTH will reflect some of the suns rays? REALLY, I think that my best bet is to pay some guys to install a vent in my greenhouse either on the roof or near it.

Great video. You have your ventilation system set up perfectly. The only tip I would suggest is building a wood cover over top of your thermostat. We do a sort of lean to type configuration with a roof and 2 sides. We then paint it white. That helps keep the thermostat from getting false signals from direct sunlight. Tammy
@homesteadhandyman44817 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. I will follow your advice!
@miket83246 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing. Wood will not work. You need to deflect the heat. Use aluminum. Not foil but trim coil or even the cheap aluminum baking pans. Im doing a test with mine but haven’t had any heat and sun yet. I’ll let you know..
@AdvanceGreenhouses6 жыл бұрын
Wood is a poor heat conductor. Therefore it is the perfect thing to use for this. Plus to add to this we paint it white. Aluminum is a great heat conductor. You don't want this. The point is to keep heat from the sun away from your thermostat, so that you do not get false elevated readings.

For additional passive, how about concrete pavers down the middle for a walk way and solar collector. Two 18" X 18" wide, the whole length of the house, installed on top of a bed of gravel. A dark color could help as well, either painted or dark mix concrete.
