Brings me to tears seeing, hearing and ‘feeling’ these magnificent warbirds. It is especially poignant given that the Queen has just passed. Thank God for the brave men that flew these planes in order to keep us free. Cannot wait to get into a Spitfire at Goodwood next year. Nice video…Thank You! I hope that air shows like these go on annually forever. Thank God for the Queen and Sir Winston Churchill.

@@DiversParadise69 Random fact, but your 63rd birthday last week makes you exactly 30 years younger than my Dad. 7th September is always a poignant day for me. He would've turned 93 last week, if he was still here, but sadly passed in 2006. I guess he was fortunate to still only be 16 when the war ended, as he lived a good life thanks to those who were less fortunate and gave their lives to preserve our freedoms.

Were at Duxford, to meet the curator of the museum, to see my dad's wartime, flying Log book as,my dad was a rear gunner in the Lancaster bomber, 101,squadron during the the war. The curator was honoured to meet up with him to chat about his experiences and go through his log book which was all about the bomber missions that he experienced.

as an American who's descendants stood with Britain in WW1 and WW2, this puts a lump in my throat, and it is wonderful to see, it makes me think what would be even better would be if there was every kind of allied aircraft taking off from this field at the same time, sort of a re-enactment of a world war II typical sortee. Perhaps get a thousand aircraft in the air at the same time.. how awe inspiring would that be.

I watch this film with mixed emotions. My father saw k 5054 flying when he played near Eastleigh airport. My late aunt worked at the Rolls Royce plant in Derby building Merlin engines. On October with 2017, I went to Westhampnett airfield for a flight in a Spitfire no 9. I took my mother and father with me and they spent a wonderful day watching the Spitfires flying. On our return home, my dad collapsed and died in my arms. His last day was watching Spitfires flying. A great but sad day.

Thank you, I was privileged to know - many years ago now - one of those few who flew. He never spoke of it, his life paused in 1939 and resumed again in 1945/6 when he returned to his previous occupation at the Bank of England. Thank you for keeping their memories alive and for brilliant photography of the display. Just wish there was also a WWI flight, it would be absolutely fabulous to see those bi-planes (or replicas of them) that were flown so bravely in that war in all their glory once again.

I remember a few Farnborough airshows ago they did have a ww1 section where a few biplanes mustered over the friends house I was at before doing a flypast. It's funny watching them as they don't fly in the same way as later planes - often they would just turn the rudder and the plane would point in a different direction to the one it was moving in then slowly it would start to move that direction 🤣🤣 they appeared to have way more lift than power - which I guess is true!

A wonderful sight. The sound of a Merlin engine always, always brings me out in goosebumps - I was born 18 years after the war ended, and yet, the sight and sound of these astonishing machines always brings a tear to my eye. I know what they signify - freedom. I recently watched, and enjoyed, for the nth time, the 1969 'Battle Of Britain' movie, and, yet again, got choked up at Dowding's line: "Our young men will have to shoot down their young men at a rate of four to one." Whether he said it, in reality, or not, doesn't matter to me, but it shows just how few the 'few' were.

If you want to see an SR71 or B52 or Concorde close up, Imperial War Museum Duxford has it all. Not far from US air bases still active today such as Lakenheath. And up the M11 not far is Cambridge American Cemetery which is impressive with its American architectural style and sobering with the number of graves of US servicemen from WW2 in a quiet respectful well-maintained site. Area rich with history.
