I had a nandina once that never seemed to grow. My neighbor informed me that the deer had been nibbling on it. So I dug it up and gave it to my sister. It is now thriving in a less deer populated place. So I can go and visit it whenever I want.😁

i was looking for something smaller to put in a space in my yard that once had a large pampas grass in a 3 foot square area. I have sandy soil, southeast Connecticut, zone 7a, and did some youtube searching and found your channel. I like the Gulfstream Nandina, so I'm heading to the garden center to find this plant. Thank you for your knowledge.

Thanks for the info. I am in eastern Oklahoma (7A). The former owner of my house planted these in the front of the house beneath a mature oak and hackberry with virtually no sun. I haven't watered them once in three years. They won't die and are very deeply rooted, so much so they get to stay. Now I'm looking for a companion for them.

Hello I am from Frances from Texas and wanted to let you know how much I love your Channel. I like the way you describe each plant with name and rather they like full sun or little water and how big it will grow how much cold they will tolerate. My problem is keeping the weeds out. I did a small flower bed and put down 10 sheets thick of newspaper, a fine mulch and potting soil. Hope this works. Thank you again. I will be watching more.

I have Flirt & Firepower & love them. They do well in zone 7a in heat & humidity , in full sun or afternoon shade, in drought, in drenching rains, through ice storms, and they made a mighty come back after this past winter's Arctic Blast. I've been looking for the old tall Heavenly Bamboo nandina for a screen but can't find - yet. I hope you are over your vertigo and fully recovered.

Thank yo sooo much for the videos! I have been searching for evergreen small shrub with winter interest and finally I found the answer! I also have been refraining from buying nandina since it is said to be invasive. Glad to find out that there are species that are non-invasive!

I have the old varieties and trying to get rid of them. Their roots reach Japan I think. So hard to get the root ball out and if you leave a sliver of toot in it will stare a new plant. I personally hate them. I hope the bee varieties are better in that aspect. I love the color of the hew varieties. I need to do some research on them.

Hi Debbie, I’m on Vancouver Island and always looking forward to your videos to give me pointers. Can you pls also cover “woodland garden” type plants - shrubs, perennials and annuals that thrive in half-shade environment? It seems to me that most plants need full sun and I’m stuck with rhodos, azeleas or camellias, which all bloom in late spring and have no summer or fall interest plants. THX

Thank you for this one. Because of this video I just ordered 3 firepower’s from the HD website. Those might solve a problem area. I tried other nandinas this year in my zone 7 wooded garden with pockets of decent sun and they’re looking well right now, coloring up. The deer have been particularly voracious this year despite so much undergrowth in the surrounding woods (rain, rain). But they seem to leave the Nandinas alone, so far. How well do these transplant if I want to move a couple?
@GardenStylenw3 жыл бұрын
They transplant well with plenty of compost and water.

Congratulations on reaching 50k! I just bought tow Nandinas "Obsession," and cannot wait to plant them in my garden. I also bought Lemon Lime Nandinas back in early August. They were 3 gal. I noticed brown spots on the leaves, and they started shedding leaves and stems at their lower half about a week after I brought them home. I transplanted them in bigger pots to see if they improve as well as sprayed anti-fungal copper solution. What is happening to them? Do they recover/come back or are they worth planting in the garden?
@SMElder-od5cl3 жыл бұрын
I bought 2 Lemon Lime nandina s almost a year ago. Both had lots of brown spots on the leaves., Today they have absolutely "clean" leaves and are beautiful. All I did was plant them and watered occasionally to get them established.

Is it true that their berries are poisonous? Something like cyanide? Sincerely asking.
@GardenStylenw3 жыл бұрын
On the original nandinas the berries can be toxic if the birds eat too many of them. The new hybrids rearely bloom thus no berries.
