I remember seeing an interview with Cheever. He said that after the race, Earnhardt came over to him and he was a little scared to come out. However, Earnhardt was smiling and told him he looked forward to him bringing his best to the next race. Cheever was so sad to see him die... he cried in the interview.

anyone have the post race interviews? loved when cheever looked at Dale with fear in his eyes, and Dale just smiled and said, "it's ok, i never hit a man sittin in a car" or something to that effect!

Cheever told Earnhardt “I owe you an apology”. I think Cheever knew he screwed up and Earnhardt never needed to swing on anybody and he was still feared!

@knoxstar15 Did you actually READ my post? If you had, you would've noticed that I never mentioned the need for unregulated, unlimited blocking. I was refering to what Cheever did to Jarrett on the backstretch on the last lap. Cheever blocked the inside line and forced Jarrett to the middle of the track. Cheever stayed on the inside and Jarrett went past him. It was aggressive and clean, and the sort of racing I want to see in NASCAR.
@arenasnow15 жыл бұрын
They ran only eleven cars for the other three races and retired the #3 when they decided to let drivers use the car numbers they're most associated with, so Helio Castroneves ran #03 in his future appearances, for instance.

@@whoasked9500 RP won 60 races and 4 championships in the modern era. Which is great by any driver's standards, but the 200 wins and 7 champions is a joke. Before the modern era, he ran more races (2-3 times a week) against fewer competitors (14 cars in the field at dirt tracks?) and won a LOT of those races due to attrition. In 1971 he won 21 out of 46 races. Although there were some good (and a few HOFers in those races), he had the best sponsor (STP = Money) and faster cars....not to mention the "bending" of the rules he got away with. Kyle's 200+ wins are much more impressive...IMO.

@@bigelile07 I wasn't too smart when I made that comment. I believe now that Dale was the best.
@bigelile074 жыл бұрын
@@whoasked9500 Didn't expect that response. lol. There is a case to be made that David Pearson was better than Petty (head-to-head) considering that he was a part time driver. When you have time read this www.racing-reference.info/showblog?id=2629

What's with this whole "pass in the grass" thing? In 1987, Earnhardt didn't pass Elliot. Elliot was trying to pass Earnhardt, but Dale kept Elliot behind him. Here, Earnhardt didn't pass anybody. He lost places. Anyway, Earnhardt is LEGEND. The most aggressive racer ever. I personally prefer Petty because Petty was the very definition of DOMINANCE, but Earnhardt was the very definition of GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY!!! :D Love em both.
