I agree with you BFM '87 was definitely his most successful season of his career and I believe that if Tim Richmond had lived on He would have given Earnhardt a run for his money

Earnhardt straight up dominated that year! He was expecting Tim Richmond in the Rick Hendrick Folgers car with Harry Hyde as crew chief to bring it for real. The previous year Earnhardt won the championship but Tim Richmond won the most races and came close to taking the Cup. Richard Childress and the boys on the team made sure they were ready for warfare over the winter going into the '87 season!

The closest thing to Dale's start in 1987 was Harvick this year, which is the first that comes to mind but still doesn't quite compare to his (Dale won four straight and Harvick only got to three). Dale's start and season was monstrous.

Mark Martin 1998 - 3 Poles, 7 wins 22 top-5's, 28 top-10's and over 1700 laps led. He was a monster. Should have won the Cup if not for Gordon and a helpful rule change every week for Chevrolets (half the times the Pontiacs got the screws from the rule changes, too.)That was when Roush was killing it with Martin/Hmiel then Fenning and Burton/Parrott then Stoddard in the late 90s. As a Yankees fan, the Roush/Fenway marriage was the end for me.

I watched Dale race this car at LEE speedway in NH. His hood got loose and came up over his windshield blocking his view. He finished the race with his head hanging out the drivers side and still won the race. Fast forward to this past weekend at White Mountains Motorsports Park, Jason Corliss battled with D.J. Shaw in the ACT tour and Corliss' hood did the same damn thing Dale's did and he won the race by about a bumper length. Insane race and crazy that I saw this happen twice.

Holy shit when he gave an interview in his car I just cannot see the lack of space a Hans device fills up, it just looks so empty, and no headrest just a metal plank, I mean I know they wear helmets but don't you want a bit of cushion for your head after you get smashed forward and slam backwards? This was by far his best year win wise and average finish. I think those teams they had in the 80’s and 90’s with RCR was the best of all time. They won on all types of tracks against hall of fame talent. Had it not been for North Wilksboro in 1989 with Ricky Rudd and a bad summer months in 1995 highlighted with a bad crash at Michigan he could’ve won the title those years.

In terms of win count and average finish, definitely, although the margin he had over the runner up was bigger in 1994. That year, helped by the accident that ruled out Ernie Irvan, he beat Mark Martin by 444 points (despite the fact that he only scored 4 wins and had an average finish of 8.0). I guess another part of the reason for the extent of the gap was because of the distraction the Tyre War between Goodyear and Hoosier

The thing I wish internet fans who are critical of the sport would listen to when the announcers talk is this. Not saying that there isn't things that need to be fixed, but how many times did they say "only 3 cars" or "only 4 cars" on the lead lap? So people complain that the races are boring...how boring do you think it was in 1987 and in those years regardless if someone dominated...it was very common for there to be 10 or less cars on the lead lap.

Chase Elliott as a bust? He’s a consistent top ten contender.

Brandon Racing True. But to be fair to him his results show a consistent driver that honestly should have had a couple wins under his belt by now. I think those other drivers make sense, but Chase still has time to show his true level. He’s just a young gun.
