It's funny that you mentioned that, I was thinking the exact same thing before I scrolled down the comments. I truly believe one of biggest differences between the kids of today and our generation is the messages that we received from our music and entertainment, not denying we didn't have some messed up stuff, we REALLY did, but I believe the 90's ended up being the pinnacle of music, and entertainment, in general. You're interpretations of the song were very good and meaningful. The lead singer, Simon LeBon, actually wrote the song after a friend's suicide. After the funeral, he was looking through photos of them together and wondering how he would be able to move on and "survive" without his friend (the line "where's my friend when I need you most" was his mindset). After that, he started interpreting all the other meanings it could have and incorporated it into this song, which was kind of their comeback song in early 1992 (they had a massive falling off from their 80s heyday).

Oh man, you guys hit on another emotional heavy for me. The 1st was INXS which brought back the early years with my girlfriend and love at the time..., this came out shortly after we parted. My world, the world I thought was going to be, was gone and I was left with that vacuum where my heart had been. This song snuck in and really hit me with a message and sentiment that I needed to hear. One that still resonates with me today. All these things that happen to us, the lost loves and loved ones, it is the process of life, the way of the world. A world filled with so much more misery than I will ever know. TG. So really, there is nothing to it but to just go on. I'm still alive, still walkin', and the world is still moving on, with or without me. Another ordinary day to live within and discover its joy. Its smile. This here was a very definite smile, and a tear. That's what puts this song in the 'Epic' category for me. I have a few songs on that list, but this one holds a special place in my heart. And Amber, that smile you get when they drop into the beat around 5:55 when he sings,' ours is just a little sorrow at all...,' and that whole epic ending sequence, thats the smile I'm talkin' about, the feel..., Keep on smilin'.

Another great one from this time was "Come Undone". Both songs are Duran in a more older, introspective mood imo. All their songs have changed meaning to me over time. I appreciate their earlier work more now. "Ordinary World" has become an anthem of surviving sadness for me, having lost my Mother/best friend a few years ago. Everyone is dealing with suffering to some degree... the end lyrics "Every world is my world" sums this up perfectly. Simon Le Bon wrote the lyrics and he tells his listeners his lyrics can be interpreted to whatever listeners want them to be. The back story of the song is about dealing with grief & also inspired by the Gulf War 1990-91. Ordinary World (1992) is part 2 of a trilogy of songs dealing with the passing of Le Bon's childhood friend, David Miles, to a drug overdose. Part 1 is Do You Believe In Shame? (1988) & part 3 concludes the trilogy, with Out Of My Mind (1997).

That's a great song, isn't it? Yes, about losing someone dear, through death or through a broken relationship (the bit about pride tearing them apart). And yes, having to figure out a way to reach an "ordinary world," a world without the lost dear one, and making a go of that, best you can. The line that always gets me is the one that says, compared to the troubles of the world, "ours is but a little sorrow." What a great lyric. Of course, those "little sorrows" that barely measure on the world's attention, the sorrows of losing a loved one, can be extremely difficult to deal with.

The song is about Simon Le Bon's (Duran Duran's vocalist & Lyricist) childhood friend who passed away. It is also inspired by the Gulf War 1990-91 to be exact. However, Le Bon, with all of his lyrics/songs, wants the listener to make the meaning whatever it means to them. Ordinary World is part 2 of a trilogy in dealing with the loss of Le Bon's friend, David Miles. Part 1 is Do You Believe In Shame? & part 3 is Out Of My Mind, which was featured in the motion picture The Saint with Val Kilmer.

This song always makes me think of my childhood dog, Rusty. The line "where is my friend when I need you most...gone away" gets me seriously choked up. He passed years ago, but this song gets me EVERY time.

This was one of the last biggest hits in the early 90's and to be honest hungry like the wolf is my favorite from the 80's but this one is also my favorite from the 90's

One of my favorite songs of all time. It’s embarrassing the number of times I’ve listened to it as my Spotify will testify. I think it takes on so much more meaning the older you get and the more you live through. ✌️💕✨

This song has done weird things to me... I was singing it on a rainy flooding night when I saw a memento of a fake friend then my phone died. Then 2 years later I was singing it then suddenly a handsomely dressed wedding couple walked past me. Wow! 😲 🎼Every word is my world always gets me especially in the album version 😢🎼

Probably one of the most perfectly produced songs ever made. I loved this when it was new, and 30 years on, I love it just as much.Another song from this era that I love (and fell in love to) was 'Out of My Mind (Perfecto Mix)' - It's perfecto alright.

This song brings out a lot of emotions in me. My young daughter died from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and 6 months later my wife served me with divorce papers. She said I was not emotionally available for her. She was right. I was completely devastated by watching my daughter take her last breath. I completely disconnected from everyone and everything. I worked double shifts and slept frequently to try and avoid the pain. It was a time of grief, depression and self-doubt for me. I really struggled to move on with my life for quite some time. I’m a big Duran Duran fan, but actually hated hearing this song for a while.

Are you feeling better now?
@jamesf9317 ай бұрын
@@freedomgundam95 Better how? There are so many components to what I wrote. Have I stopped working double shifts and sleeping frequently to avoid the pain of losing my daughter and subsequently going through a divorce 6 months later? Yes. Do I still miss my daughter’s presence and the love we shared for each other? Yes. And I will never get over this. My daughter passed away 2 days before Thanksgiving. I have not attended a Thanksgiving dinner or family get together since. It is still too painful for me, even 14 years later. Yes, I’m moving forward, but it’s an incredibly slow journey. No, I have not forgotten my daughter, and never will. Sometimes I have dreams of the time we did have together, and it’s painful to wake up knowing she’s gone. Those are very rough days.

@@jamesf931 i'm really sorry you're having to go through that man. Even though life may seem to drag you by the feet, remember that someday all of this will eventually pass and you will be able to cope in a healthy way, i know you can do this. If you need help do not hesitate to look for it. You don't necessarily have to go through this alone. My condolences and hugs go out.

Simon's lyrics are often deep and profound. This was apparently written after a friend's suicide. There's a maturity to this one. Not that their other music wasn't. It was very mature considering how young they were in the 80's, bit these are guys in their 30's---husbands, fathers. So growth has occurred. This is my favorite 90s song of theirs. Just so sad and poignant. Also, it's a crowd pleaser when they do it live.

The song is about dealing with the loss of Le Bon's childhood friend, David Miles, who passed away from an overdose. Ordinary World (1992) is part 2 of a trilogy about Miles. Part 1 was written after Miles' passing & the song is called Do You Believe In Shame? (1988). Le Bon felt some guilt about not being there for his friend at the time. And part 3 concludes with the track Out Of My Mind (1997), which is also in the motion picture The Saint w/Val Kilmer. All three songs helped Le Bon grieve & get through his loss as much as he could.

This is my second favourite Duran Duran song after "Come Undone" which you've already reacted to. Such a cool band with some pretty heavy and intelligent lyrics.
