The Vulcan has been up two days running now. It must be getting ready for air shows and stuff. florret2003 - Reminds me of sitting in the park (Gravelly National Park) in front of Washington DC's Reagan National airport when they are landing to the south for 19 after following the Potomac down from the northwest! Bigtime plane spotting there too and it's even great when they taxi up to 19 and take off to the south. What I was referring to was runways that are next to roads where people pull off, just like this one. I used to live near Lockheed-Martin's factory in Marietta GA (Dobbins Air Reserve base) and the road that runs north-south on the southeastern side of the runway with an excellent view (Cobb Parkway). When pulling off the road there and getting out to shoot photos or video the Cobb County or local Marietta police would tell me to move along.

Liam Husler 2015 will be the last display season ever though as the engines and airframe have about reached their allotted flight hours, very very sad. But Im fortunate enough to have lived close to where it was based (the pilot at the time up to 1993 lived about a dozen doors down the road). I remember we used to get regular flypasts when I was at school, just awesome! Go watch some vids with it on full throttle, sounds like hells being unleashed.

Very similar proximity to what's seen here, but with an unobstructed view of the runway. I have a great shot of a British Airways 747 passing directly over my head. Next time I'm back for a visit I'll have to see if the spot became off limits after 9/11 (or possibly due to a major expansion project that happened some time after I moved away).

As a kid we used to park up at the end of Lakenheath runway watching the F111 land. Some of the pilots waved and some opened up the afterburners for us. It all stopped though as the Uber sensitive yanks claimed it was a security issue and made a designated viewing area out of the flight path which is totally useless now.

+Rich77UK Makes sense, as per your statement that the pilots would focus on the watchers as they were landing, instead of focusing entirely on the landing, I can see how that can be an issue. Why should we lose a $50-$100 million aircraft to impress a gaggle of Brits who wish they had the military hardware we do, so much they decide to distract our pilots?
@Rich77UK9 жыл бұрын
+CuIt of Personality There is always one twat about isnt there. You don't think that the aircraft had enough warning systems and safety protocol that the pilot (or copilot as they are side by side in the F111) could give a simple wave lasting less than 3 seconds? They do it at airshows regular enough.

A few years ago someone was killed here at the end of the runway watching low flying landings off a ladder by the fence you see in the video. I think it was an F16 that approached too low and had to correct its flightpath by powering up its engines. Apparently the wash killed the spectator immediately. They then painted the fence with the non drying paint and put up warning signs. I don't think it was when the Waddington airshow was on, just the routine manouevres from visiting aircraft.
@Orca1990410 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised they don't have this area closed off for security. Here in the states the FAA and Homeland Security would have a fit about people being able to come and go through the final approach path of a major airport or air force base.
