The Vulcan has to be the coolest plane ever made, I saw one live at Shoreham airshow about 10 years ago and the noise that thing makes is out of this world.

Great to see The Vulcan flying in to home! I still remember as a kid seeing them overhead almost every day. Then as I got a bit older I'd cycle 5 miles up the road and watch The Lightnings. Should have enlisted in The RAF, bit of a life regret not doing.

I grew up in Finningley village as a kid in 70/80's and the vulcan 'bomber command' was based there. I'll never forget how the windows and lights used to shake when they took off. You could feel the heat on you face as they put on there after burners to gain hieght above our house. I still get a buzz thinking about it now.

The Vulcan has been up two days running now. It must be getting ready for air shows and stuff. There is not a sound on this Earth that makes a noise like this beast, then suddenly after two low level circuits, it pointed upwards at an unbelievable angle and disappeared into the clouds like a javelin! Awesome.

Love the lawn chairs and ladders! Just missing the coolers and beer! In America you'd be told to leave for traffic safety. But that B-17 landing...awesome! Like going back in time 70 years and seeing what people experienced in Europe and the UK back then. And I had no idea there was a Saab Draken even still flying! Nice to see European warbirds like that still around.

florret2003 - Reminds me of sitting in the park (Gravelly National Park) in front of Washington DC's Reagan National airport when they are landing to the south for 19 after following the Potomac down from the northwest! Bigtime plane spotting there too and it's even great when they taxi up to 19 and take off to the south. What I was referring to was runways that are next to roads where people pull off, just like this one. I used to live near Lockheed-Martin's factory in Marietta GA (Dobbins Air Reserve base) and the road that runs north-south on the southeastern side of the runway with an excellent view (Cobb Parkway). When pulling off the road there and getting out to shoot photos or video the Cobb County or local Marietta police would tell me to move along.

I remember my Dad taking me to Fbro airshow when I was a teenager. We had a 2CV and we removed the entire back seat and used it as a sofa! The weather was great and it was 1st time I'd seen (and heard!) Vulcan for real. I admit when it went overhead I was absolutely bloody *terrified* by the noise thru the ground! Oh happy days :-)

I had 35 years in the US Air Force and was on flying status, and I have to say the Vulcan is one of the coolest aircraft I've ever seen. Back in the mid-1970s, I saw one at McGuire AFB, New Jersey. He did a low approach cross-ways to the main runway (toward the crowd) and then went full throttle up. Unreal!

There is one flying (evidently from this video) its a costly exercise for them but they try to keep her flying for displays. The orginisation that keeps her flying have mostly flown Vulcans' themselves during their military careers. She's a thing of beauty though ain't she.

Liam Husler 2015 will be the last display season ever though as the engines and airframe have about reached their allotted flight hours, very very sad. But Im fortunate enough to have lived close to where it was based (the pilot at the time up to 1993 lived about a dozen doors down the road). I remember we used to get regular flypasts when I was at school, just awesome! Go watch some vids with it on full throttle, sounds like hells being unleashed.

gtametro It would be flying longer if some idiot hadn't left stuff (silica bags last I heard) in the engines when she started up a couple years back, that wrecked two meaning the two spares had to be fitted... totally killed the flight life-span of what she had left.

Some fantastic shots along with some crass silliness. All that's needed is for one of them to undershoot and lots of dead bodies! Not sure if it's still the case, but when I lived outside Detroit many years ago there was a great viewing spot right at the north end of the primary runway used for inbound flights. Very similar proximity to what's seen here, but with an unobstructed view of the runway. I have a great shot of a British Airways 747 passing directly over my head. Next time I'm back for a visit I'll have to see if the spot became off limits after 9/11 (or possibly due to a major expansion project that happened some time after I moved away).

As a kid we used to park up at the end of Lakenheath runway watching the F111 land. Some of the pilots waved and some opened up the afterburners for us. It all stopped though as the Uber sensitive yanks claimed it was a security issue and made a designated viewing area out of the flight path which is totally useless now.

+Rich77UK Makes sense, as per your statement that the pilots would focus on the watchers as they were landing, instead of focusing entirely on the landing, I can see how that can be an issue. Why should we lose a $50-$100 million aircraft to impress a gaggle of Brits who wish they had the military hardware we do, so much they decide to distract our pilots?
@Rich77UK
@Rich77UK 9 жыл бұрын
+CuIt of Personality There is always one twat about isnt there. You don't think that the aircraft had enough warning systems and safety protocol that the pilot (or copilot as they are side by side in the F111) could give a simple wave lasting less than 3 seconds? They do it at airshows regular enough.

Once again a brilliant video! Nowhere else in the world can one get this close to so many aircraft so easily and with little or no control. Is this why the powers that be want to stop it?

A few years ago someone was killed here at the end of the runway watching low flying landings off a ladder by the fence you see in the video. I think it was an F16 that approached too low and had to correct its flightpath by powering up its engines. Apparently the wash killed the spectator immediately. They then painted the fence with the non drying paint and put up warning signs. I don't think it was when the Waddington airshow was on, just the routine manouevres from visiting aircraft.

I'm surprised they don't have this area closed off for security. Here in the states the FAA and Homeland Security would have a fit about people being able to come and go through the final approach path of a major airport or air force base.

That`s a good point,although we don`t know if there was a discreet security presence - probably was.It`s a very white part of England,so any dark complected folks would have ankle tags.

You're surprised because you're American. In most countries around the world people don't act crazy. Your culture is rotten. Your people have no concept of right and wrong, no heritage, your country has no history. Your country is a bastardisation of criminal immigrants and outcasts from other countries. We have churches and castles older than your country. I'm not saying this to insult but to explain why your country will never be wholly civilised for a very long time. I will never visit America.
