The main problem for me is that F&M Models doesn't seem to advertise their products online. IC Hobbies only shows two HO scale items they offer. It would help F&M sales if there was a means to order items that are 3D printed from a list of available items. Yes, the truck model looks great.

Sounds like a great item! A problem with modeling some eras (like my 1969 scenario) is getting "ordinary" cars and other vehicles. All the mass-market guys make 1960s cars, but they are all Corvettes and Camaros, etc. Good "everyday" vehicles can be hard to get. 3D printing can be great, but some are just a waste of money. This truck looks like a superb model.

Yeah. I hope they make more obscure vehicles.

I started 3d printing several years ago with filament printers. There capabilities are impressive but limited in fidelity and detail. For structural type projects they’re outstanding. Then I dove into 3d resin printing about 6 months ago. OMG 😱. The possibilities in the modeling hobby world are endless. Unbelievable detail and resolution. Once your comfortable designing and drawing in CAD the sky’s the limit.

I'm currently getting a website built as I build HO custom trucks have been for 40 years. I started doing it as there just wasn't anything out on the market detailed enough or a variety of makes and models available. I'm building a lot of 3-D trucks that are extremely super detailed. I figure another month and I will post on my channel the announcement. By the way your attention to details and modelling skills are absolutely tops in my book. I've gotten some great ideas watching your videos.

Kind of like someone else said (but I model the 70s/80s), finding everyday vehicles is difficult… luckily the “Fresh Cherries” line helped me a lot there. Semis, I still struggle with. Brekina makes some nice models, they tend to be fancier than the “working class-day cab” trucks that I saw running around. So, I’ll be looking for these F&M logging trucks too. I managed to get some Athearn KW kits a swap meet a few years ago, and recently I purchased some upgrade kits at the train show in Monroe, WA. These are made to turn those Athearn kits into a logging truck. That’s cool, but you need the Athearn kit to start with and that’s been out of production a long time. I just went digging for the kit I got, but the guy did not put a business name on the bag.😮

While watching this, I thought back to the 1/25-scale car models I used to build in the late '60s. I am completely blown away by what F&M has created. I'm even more amazed that the current $29US cost of the model which was roughly $3.20US inflation-adjusted in 1967. That is close to what I remember paying for the hack stuff available to a kid of limited income back then.

One of the nicest things about 3D prints is that you can scale them arbitrarily once you have the model file built. (There are some issues with detail abstraction as you scale; you don't necessarily want the same level of fiddly detail in HO as in O.) Which means that if you want that model in, say, S scale (that nearly nobody supports), there's no particular reason that you couldn't have it. Just print at 87.1/64 or 136% of the HO scale print and you're done. Same thing with using wargame models for model railroading or vice versa. A deuce-and-a-half is useful for nearly any WWII or later military scene or any contemporaneous railroad scene, for instance. Just print to match the scale of your other stuff.

@boomerdiorama10 ай бұрын
I think he is doing a Kenworth cab-over. Collector trucks like shiny (out of scale) chrome. Sort of like a shiny lure to catch a fisherman - not a fish. ;-) I don't see chrome as being a factor when you stand 87 feet away from a truck (which is HO scale). Too shiny for HO scale for me. The same goes for black & white paint. You never see black or white in the real world so why in the model world? Real world chrome looks out of place in larger scales as well, in my opinion. Vallejo makes a great silver/aluminum for small models. ;-)
