I'm speechless! Almost. I spent about 4 years living in one of those! I'd get "home" for a day or two about every two or three months (I was obviously not married at the time) covering every section of every State in the lower US and large sections of your beautiful country. Including countless trips to Kelowna, to the Western Star factory there. While I was watching this, I kept saying "Oh! Wait! You should..." And then you did! And "Oh No! Wait! You should..." And then you did! That is one super model, and you did an excellent job on it. I do have two observations though. Based on the three valve covers on the engine, it's a Cummins. And Cummins engines of that era were painted flesh color. Of course, as an owner, you could paint the engine any color you wanted but, the rule is: Cats are Yellow, Cummins are flesh and Detroits are green. Then again, with the cab down, you can't see the engine, so it doesn't matter. The only other thing is those horrible Chicago Wobblers! Ugh! Ugh! Ugh! You have no idea how I hate them! I know the Pete can be had with Budd wheels, I am going to have to change them on my model (Which I'm ordering tomorrow!). Now, pardon me, I'm going to rewind and replay this video. Again!

Howdy Boomer! Wow - that truly is a spectacular model... and with your special touch and eye for detail it makes it just stunning! I still see a few COE Kenworths in my area - farmers use them for their grain trailers for hauling grain to the local elevators. These trucks maybe see 500-1,000 miles a year, so with regular maintenance they can last virtually forever. I really like your mirror upgrades - much more realistic as in the 70's and 80's you would have been hard pressed to find a semi tractor without CB antennas! Really impressed with F&M Models. This is definitely a beautiful model and your finishing was excellent as always! I started off in cabovers back in '93 (I got in on the tail-end of their hey-day) and I can hear my joints popping now just thinking about climbing over a doghouse to get in the bunk, only to get undressed/dressed on my back. lol There are definitely a lot of these old trucks that are being pulled out of the weeds and restored these days, often so that their owners can avoid emissions requirements that now plague modern trucks (the def fluid system is truly a racket). His kit is simply beautiful and I think the etched mirrors you added made it all the moreso. Well done!
@boomerdiorama4 ай бұрын
They do have their quirks and caveats. Nevertheless they look awesome to me. That is interesting about the "emissions requirements." My current work truck is 1998 and it looks and runs like a champ. I just put new axles in it the other day. I love the older vehicles with the noise anomalies and all . . . ;-)
@johnniewelbornjr.89404 ай бұрын
@@boomerdiorama It is simply my personal observation since so many of the owner-operators here hate the def systems. It is rather cool to see them back on the road these days, even though I will pass on driving one. It is often the younger owners that like these trucks, too, for even though I like the old noise anomalies, a day of hearing them in the cab does wear thin! lol But, most of my driving is in an oilfield winch truck these days, off pavement and climbing around the badlands of western ND, so I'm already behind the noise curve anyway... :))) Keep up the great work, especially for those of us that can't do much model building these days!

Boomer, what an amazing moidel, with just sooooo much detail. When I spent time as a warehouse manager, the Kenny Flat Nose was my favourite truck. The oner operator as you call them, in Australia we called them gray ghosts, as you were never sure who was running the truck. I must say, the Showcase mirrors are amazing, Our 3D printed kits in Australia dont usually come with mirrors (cost?), so I bend some 0.5mm brass, and glue on a piece of 10 thou Evergreen strip to simulate the mirrors, that is the only pice I use the chrome pen on for the glass of the mirror. a bit crude up close, but at 87 feet, looks just the thing. During a break in aviation I drove a '79 Kenworth K100C big bunk flat top like this one. This is an amazing model and captures the look of the K100C perfectly! You did an amazing job bringing it to life Boomer. I was driving mine from 2012-2014, so even though Kenworth stopped production in the states of the K100C in 1983, a lot of owner operators like me used them for YEARS afterwards. Just saw a K100E (1984 to early 90s) on the road on the drive to the airport last week. Easiest spotting difference between the K100C and K100E are round vs. square headlights. Mike really did the K100 justice with this one, can't wait for mine to arrive from InterCity Trains.

Dear Boomer, beautiful model, paint job and vid! Agreed on the chrome pen, takes an amazing long time to appropriately dry. Of course shaking the pen is imperative, as is the way it is stored. Plus properly closing the cap after use. After using the pen for a while I also found the refill container. To me using the chrome paint straight from the refill container is sometimes better than using the pen. First of all, in the pen tip there’s always some residue that you don’t want to use on the model. Nevertheless, sometimes it can still show up during the coloring process. Therefore dipping some drops of chrome from the refill container on a palette is a better choice for me. Ever since I saw you do silver or chrome on one of the previous models from your vids I paint the part with burnt umber before adding the chrome, that still can lead to off scale bling effects, but it definitely helps to keep the chrome layer in check. Not saying I can achieve a wash effect with the chrome, but just a little hint of deterioration is easier achieved this way. Cheerio

Really nice model. Hopefully, they have them in 1/64th scale. The silver paint marker is a great paint color. Even I was put into a bit of a trance when it's flashing around. Americana DecoArt has metallic acrylics that I've used with great results also. I bought the Woodland Scenics Duces bike shop. The unassembled model kit version. It had some parts that I painted with both flat and gloss black rattle can paint that I painted a month ago and they are still tacky. I don't think they will ever dry fully. I'm going to remove the paint and use acrylics to see if it works. For some reason, the parts on that spru are a softer rubber like plastic than the styrene the building is made of that doesn't take paint well. I really don't want a gray Doberman yard dog and motorcycles with gray tires. Any suggestions would be welcomed. At least the motorcycles stay upright without glue😊.
