Wish I'd done something like that w/ my 71 when I had it. Merging onto freeway traffic in LA took courage w/ only 36 HP. I had to trade it in after getting the engine rebuilt and I couldn't find anyone to heilicoil the crank case (it was about 1978) to allow a tight sealing drain plug. The Honda dealer who rebuilt the motor wouldn't take responsibility for not making that requested fix. It popped out along I5 near San Diego. That was it for my little yellow Honda.

I had a dual exhaust made back in the '80s for my coupe. It was truly 2 pipes from the front at head all the way to each tail pipe. They welded washers in to silence the sound a bit. They used 1 1/2" pipe but should have been 1 1/4, lost some power because of no back pressure.

B and B in Wa. tried the same and had the same results as you. I knew if I went dual 1.5" pipes too far I'd lose back pressure. I was trying to imitate the Hawaiian exhaust system except with a heat exchanger. This system works really well for some new found torque way down low in any gear to about 6000 rpm. Which surprises me. If I was to do it over I'd run single 1.5" from the muffler back, instead of the single 1.75".

Backpressure is ALWAYS wrong for a 4 stroke NA engine! With an open pipe you should tune intake side of the engine too.

If you think about the pipes as a motorcycle the extra torque is because you made some scrambler pipes. If you want pipes for top end don't put the nice bends into the exhaust.

ahhh, You maybe right. I didn't think of that.

The first 6 inches from the head is the most critical. I'm not sure what the heat exchanger is doing? Its a great fit with the flowmaster, but if you want to race the thing, you will need to shift early.

Nice job, what's with those sp tags, do you need a special registration for small cars in you state. I have been to Portland and I never notice those type of plates, although I do like your police cars with the brush guards. Yeah I traveled a little as as homeless person before I got too sick and I stayed at the wonderful dignity village in Portland, what a beautiful city you guys have.

Nice! That exhaust is almost a work of art. If you watch those guys bend that pipe you know it's not an easy task to estimate the bends. Bend too far and the pipe is useless.

That exhaust looks beautiful made. You mentioned a top end los in power, that is understandable, because a muffler should ALWAYS be as far back as possible, not in the middle of the pipe. In this case, transverse behind the rear axle would be an option. I know it's a lot of work, but you already put a lot of time in it and that would be the cherry on the pie, because you gain the lost hp and keep the torque. Succes!

is the spare tire going back under the trunk? i was thinking would it be possible to relocate the muffler tip in the center instead of the side and set it up like a stinger on a vw?

Cool..

You got it. Doesn't matter which car, if it has two banks (V8, V6, etc) or two pipes each cylinder (V-Twins, Inline Twins) it sounds 10 times better with a true dual exhaust without crossover...BUT where you fucked up imo is the y-pipe, which negates the whole sound improvements. 👎 Would love to hear how it sounds with a true dual exhaust front to back, no x-, y- or h-pipe. 🙏
