As a certified electrician, I can tell you that you would never see a splice being done like that, especially when on the job. Any boss would flip to see someone take that long to make a splice. Now if a conductor that is damaged or too short needs to be replaced, then by all means, use this method to tie on a new replacement conductor and use the old as a pull string.

Step 1: Strip the wire back to the previous junction. Step 2: Overlap the two bare wires by about 80%. You should now have about 8 feet of wire you can wrap around itself, leaving you with around 10 inches of new length. Step 3: Wrap the wires until the splice is about 3 times the diameter of the original wire. Step 4: Be sure to have a friend proofread your resume after you've updated it with your soon-to-be-former job, as you will want it ready to send out by next week to avoid a lapse in your insurance coverage due to unemployment.

I respect this idea but only for those whose wire needs to oppose tensile force. However l, normally, wires do not encounter tensile force (pulling of wires from opposite direction) after connected. Hence, a normal twisting is already okay and can function for a lifetime.

This is similar to the method they used to teach (and maybe still do!) the Signal Corps. It's a VERY strong joint and can be done quickly with practice. While i think this is a great joint for something in your boat, car, or trailer; as an electrician i would never employ this method--besides maybe on some directly buried cables you're about to bury again. Cool video thanks for sharing!

You’re but gonna pull through a conduit with a normal splice and wire nut dummy
@joeholden6129
@joeholden6129 2 жыл бұрын
@@robbrooks3418 you put a junction box in at that location and use wire nuts or cut the wires to length properly to begin with so you don't have feed to spliced wires through a conduit which I believe is not NEC compliant anyway

These would be great connections if you were hand making a wiring harness in a car. You would never, ever have a connection come loose no matter how far you drove it. When I build my VW dune buggy, this is the kind of connections I'm going to make. Thank you for the tutorial.

NEC requires splices to be mechanically fastened (ex: wire nuts). A similar splice was done with knob and tube wiring and included soldering of the splice. That was prior to NEC regulations. They didn't require splices to be made in a junction box either. My, how times have changed in a hundred years!

This is correct, I’m also agreeing with Dave, Joseph, and MR Wolfe. I do want to touch on the NEC code for a second. My interpretation of this code as of 2023, if a splice is made without solder the only acceptable toll would be the splice locks or “wago” (b/c most call it by the brand), correct?
