Have you used this yet? What do you think about it? I really hope that it continues to get better and better over time. I'd like to see more options to generate different types of clouds and how we can customise them. What about maybe an option for a night sky and stars for example? Tell me what ideas you have that you'd like to see? By the way, if you haven't seen it yet, you might enjoy my last video too - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJWvimt3nbGIeJo

Interesting technique especially for the church. I used it even when the sky is quite good. The ability to had cloud is impressive. I will try using the fx tracker for the sky. Well done Alex :))

Thank you Ririlan. Appreciate you sharing your experience and taking the time to watch and comment. I know what you mean about using it on a good sky - just nice to be able to have the control and add some detail at times.

I have been using it - I am glad you explained FX Tracker as I couldn’t find instructions for that anywhere - would be nice to see more variation of cloud types in the future - more like fair weather cumulus, as no matter how many tweaks they do kind of look the same I know you can add your own skies and have done that buy kind of nice and easy building a sky in the effect. I am no expert but did wonder why you used multiple windows like the mini circle rather than freehand mask out everything below the horizon?

Hey if I already have a node tree for the exposure, sat, contrast etc for my clips should I export the timeline then reload everything in before doing the sky replacement? I tried adding to my node tree with everything else on it and the sky doesn't turn black like yours but everything up to that step worked.

I think that you did a great job explaining the features and different uses of this new OFX. Maybe one of the variations could have been using a graphic or video from something else. The only one thing that should be of point is that now that Resolve has added into the context menu the ability to add inputs on OFX like this on a regular node, I think that the better option is now to create a node for the sky replacement and drop the OFX onto it and if you need the second input to right click and add it. The reason being is that OFX on a node tree alone can't be copied and pasted, but a regular node with an OFX can be copied and pasted. With some effects that difference is not that much of a deal. But if you had more than one angle or even a closer angle of a shot, being able to not have to recreate the whole sky from scratch each time will save all kinds of time. Especially the cloud formation. Copy/paste becomes a big time saver. I found this out the hard way - I made a really specialized false color exposure to match a detailed false color. Wasn't difficult but took a good bit of time setting each color to exact hue. Anyway, I wanted to use it upstream on the timeline - instead of in the clip. Found out that the OFX, you can't just simply copy the node and paste into a new node from an OFX. So I rebuilt it. Sky Replacement seems to me to be something where not having to do all the steps from scratch might save a lot of time. Unless, there is another reason to drop it directly on the node tree that I am not aware of. Really good tutorial Alex. If I had seen this before my investigation into it, I think that you covered quite a few things that I had to figure out, and that would have been really beneficial. So good on you - keep it up. I enjoy your teaching. cheers.

why not use the magic mask on the node before the sky replacement

Probably is... their skies suck! And I can't figure out how to use my own sky! Please help!

Great video for how to do it, but making a realistic sky is kind of boring. Let’s go over the top and get really dramatic and make the sky look like… Something out of Harry Potter? Let’s give it some drama. Lol
