We love them here in Oz. I think Dave grohl talked about them so that helped them a bit. Smoko is smoke break or lunch at work.

Ha ha awesome, I recorded and mixed that. Smoko is an Australian term for a work break when you get to have something to eat. It's called 'smoko' because of when a lot of people smoked cigarettes, so the break at work always meant a chance to smoke a cigarette.

I have no idea how you get "spy time" from "smoko". In the UK we have a much easier time with Aussie accents because they take a lot from Irish and Cockney accents, and because we grew up watching Aussie daytime soaps like Neighbours and Home and Away, which practically every Aussie actor who winds up big in pop music or Hollywood started in as a teen heart-throb.

For a real leftfield punk suggestion, I'll offer The Let's Go's. They are three women from Japan who play energetic, characterful, stripped back punk reminiscent of the 70s, but with a style and flair for a rock melody that makes them a joy to watch. Try the first 3.5 minutes of this live performance kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnOlZKBjoamgpKs which in trues Ramones fashion, is enough for 2 songs. Enjoy!

Just watching this reaction while on smoko! Smoko means a morning/afternoon break (not lunch) Back in the day to signal a work break, a whistle would sound and smoke would come out of it (think quitting time in bedrock on the flintstones) and because we call things by messed up names, that's where we term smoko was born
