I don't run any optic on mine. I can ring steel all day at 100 yards, so I scrapped my plan to buy a red dot. But you have the best budget solution I've seen yet.

Likewise. I put a fat light on my bottom rail. It really helps to see thought the little peep if you light up the target. But I can't bring myself to mount an optic.

At the end of your video u told us to lock your optic in the back of the pic rail... Optics on pic rails need to be mounted foward as recoil will try to force it that way... think about it it’s physics. I like the gun though I just picked one up myself. Just trying to help u put out correct info... thanks

Sgt. K is correct with regards to how you want it to mount to the picatinny rail. You want the rings all the way FORWARD in the slot. The rifle will move backwards, while the mounts are "sitting still", which makes them eventually meet up with the front of the slot. Recoil is a LOT of G's, so pretty much even if you tighten things so tight you're almost breaking off bolts, or stripping stuff, if you fire enough rounds it's probably going to eventually slip forward. It's easier to just push it all the way flush with the front of the mount, and then it will move as one with the rifle, no slipping because it's already against the "stop". Oh and for the record, this isn't a stupid question at all. This is a very common question, and a good one.

Thanks for the tip on the crown. Took about 5 minutes. Turtle Wax Trim Restorer will put the shine back on. Red dot sits much better now and I had to tighten up the quick release.

Wonderful mods well explained minus the mount-up misinformation. You need to send this video to Kel Tec so they could fix the pic rail crowning and add one to the front of the buttstock. Thanks for sharing.

I really don't know for sure, but I suggest a thorough research on mounting to the rear or forward on pic rail. This gentleman may have it backwards. I've always heard to push it forward so there is no slack. RockOn.StayFree.

Comment on recommendation to mount the sight to the back. It seems like all night power rifle scope rings are always mounted forward since the recoil will always want to move the ring forward. If you mount to the back it will leave space foe the ring to move forward. Not back. Any other thoughts on this issue.??

Your idea sounded like a great mod (which is why I tried it). Unfortunately, no matter what screws you use to mount the small pic rail to the butt, they will not offer enough holding strength. I know, because I mounted it perfectly and there is way too much wiggle from side to side (it's too fragile so I took it off). I think that a small bolt/nut combo may work better (if you're willing to lose your sling slit).Either way, thanks for the out-of-the-box idea!

Great idea for storage. It would be nice to get some further information after you've used this configuration for a year or two. Thanks for sharing. On the other hand I've seen several references to a study done in the last year of WWII indicating that most firefights between enemy riflemen (US and Axis) were at a range of less than 50 yards... more like 30 yards. Will a scope make a lot of difference there? On the other hand, there have been lots of stories coming from Iraq & Afghanistan about jihadis spraying a street w an AK-47 and hitting nothing, then a U.S. soldier steps out and responds with a single AIMED round and takes out the jihadi. I've not seen one anecdote that indicates range or distance to target...

Agreed. 9mm Glock 19 set-up is legit. Red Lion Precision has some decent accessories for this purpose of mounting optics but I like to see guys grinding and drilling on their new guns.

Mine was crowned too. I emailed Ketec and they said What? They wanted pictures and basically didn't understand. I just used a file slowly and all is well now.

The bottom part of the buttstock is already a piccatiny rail. So you can use that instead of mounting your own piccatiny rail.

That was my plan before I saw this. May still do it that way, but this does provide an option. If you add an angled foregrip to the lower rail, there might not be enough room for the RD. I have not measured, just considered these possible issues.

Good to know. I have 'flare' due to Lasik in 2001, so red dots are distorted. I'll have to look at a blue LED and see if that doesn't flare as bad. Thanks for the info!

I take my red dot off all the time, haven’t noticed it move out of the group really. Honestly I have even removed scopes in cantilever mounts on at-15’s and reattached and could still hit a 8” gong at 300 yards

Put an mlock 45 degree rail section on the side of the handguard and mount the optic to that. Then just hold the rifle at a 45 when firing and you’ll still have the dot and be able to close the rifle. That way the dot is always there and you don’t have to mess with anything
