Thank you for this video. I ordered a Fude pen on a whim and this video was the best lesson on how to use it that I've found thus far. My thanks, friend.

I just ordered one of these and this video made me excited! A quick note on holding the nib upside down, I draw with a Platinum Carbon Desk Pen and I always use it upside down for fine strokes. It's one of the best reasons to use fountain pens for drawing. There is so much potential for line variation.

That's awesome, I thought I was being a weirdo by using it upside down. Have fun with your Sailor Fude, leave a comment about how you dig it!

if line variation is what you were looking for get a brush pen man. sooo much more cheaper, effective and practical

It was very funny to realize there are others that flip the pen up-side-down to get the finest line 😀. Thanks for a video with an amazing sketch. Oh how i wish i could draw like you.

Maybe that's why the pen is long. To either mimic a brush or to actually hold it like a brush

Hate the music, but enjoyed the video and your commentary; I've just bought a Fude pen and am discovering its many uses - I think a lot of people use it as you do, i.e. reverse the nib on the paper for fine lines: whether that's 'approved' or not I don't know, but it certainly works.

Thanks so much for this video. I just got this open and had no idea how to use it. I am just starting out with drawing and using ink as a medium. This has helped me alot!! I may need to watch this a few times to get it.

Yeah, it's an awesome pen! I think I'll make a standalone video of just sketching with it, it's got a ton of potential once you start using it

Make sure to use fountain pen friendly ink only! No india, dip pen, shellac-based inks because they can dry in the fountain pen feed and the only way to clean those inks off damages the pen badly.

Yeah! Such a good comment, a very important tip with any of these pens.

Your ink is really little miracle :D I looked for some nice rich red color, but this brown will also do nice
@pbasswil5 жыл бұрын
I chose the blue version (with a lesser nib angle), because you can get a fairly thin line without needing to flip to the back of the nib as often. I notice with the green one here, you _really_ have to hold it upright to get a half-way thin line (unless you flip it over). With the blue one, a normal-for-me drawing angle (moderately upright) gives lines thin enough for what I typically need. But the broads are still there if I exaggerate the angle - that is, flatter to the page. So I only need to flip to the back-of-nib for _extra_ fine lines.
@TenorioArt5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've been really curious to try out the blue version, hopefully I can snag one soon!

Cool video! 🖋 I read in a different video that there's a reason for the pen's abnormal length.
@TenorioArt6 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I wonder if it's long to promote the idea of a "brush" quality in working with it.
@arlenealennox31365 жыл бұрын
I had this bent nib first and it was inconvenient that it was too long for my pen case. Then I found that Sailor has another model, called the Profit, that has the same nib in a regular sized blue body, I got that one and am happy. Got them both on Amazon.
@TenorioArt5 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of the Profit, I looked it up. That's a really nice pen!

This pen looks great here. On another review commenters were hating it for clogging. It wasn’t clear if they meant that ink stopped flowing or that it let blobs out were they weren’t anticipating them. Do you know what type of ink it comes with?
@TenorioArt6 жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact type of ink in the cartridge since I was gifted the convertor, so I went straight to using that! I highly recommend the DeAtramentis ink, it's really one of the best fountain pen inks out there, in this video I'm specifically using their "Document Ink" line of colors
@grahamparr39334 жыл бұрын
What is the difference with the Profit?
@HhhH-lr8uw4 ай бұрын
Seems like a good investment, rather than buying multiple disposable micron pens just buy this pen and some ink. Just gotta adapt on the angles to make the line size needed.

How good is Atramentis black ink Vs Platinum black carbon ink?
@TenorioArt5 жыл бұрын
Hey Arun, I think the two inks are pretty head-to-head in terms of being waterproof. I've had the chance to use the Platinum Black ink in cartridge form (in the Platinum desk pen) and it does dry very quickly without any movement from water. I feel the DeAtramentis is ALSO very good for that, it dries fast, it's rich, and it won't move at all under watercolor. If you like the Platinum and haven't tried DeAtramentis, I think you'd be very pleased with it, be sure to look for the "Document" ink as that's the one that's graded well for waterproof.

Do you do any sketching with a zebra G nib (or a G nib in a flex pen)? If not, what reason? Are flex nibs harder for sketching?
@TenorioArt6 жыл бұрын
I've used the Zebra G nib before for more finished illustrations. I think it's an awesome nib to use, I haven't done much sketching with it mainly for portability issues (i.e. moving around all the supplies to do dip pen.)
@hotjanuary6 жыл бұрын
Tenorio. I was asking because I found a cheap fountain pen with a G nib online (aliexpress.com, search keywords “Jinhao calligraphy G”. There’s no hole in the nib, unlike the rigid nibs. I don’t know if it’s the same flexibility as a dip pen G nib. (I didn’t see any reviews about it, though.) I ordered it, but I might have to wait a few months before it arrives, since it’s travelling from China by slowest means possible. There’s also the Noodler’s Ahab/Creeper flex pens, though reviews said the flexibility doesn’t compare to vintage pens. But that doesn’t tell me how it compares to dip pens. (I’m planning to buy one when my preferred colour is in stock.) I’ve also seen videos of people hacking a cheap Jinhao pen by fitting a dip pen G nib into it. However, they say they’d have to replace the nib after a certain number of months since the dip nibs aren’t designed for fountain pens, since the metal is constantly in contact with ink). I’m planning to try this when my spare G nibs arrive next month. I was just wondering if these portable options worked for an artist, beyond calligraphy.

How often do you clean your pen when you use DeAtramentis?
@TenorioArt6 жыл бұрын
I think an actual "deep" clean happens maybe every few months, but I've been really impressed with how well behaved the DeAtramentis is!

I love flex nibs, like the ones in dip pens that manga artists use, and I much prefer fountain pens for drawing over dip pens, specially for traveling. Fountain pens are great for drawing
