Brilliant idea to have the glass round the top of the pond. A lot of people new to keeping koi don't realize that they can, and do jump out from time to time. Nothing worse than coming out your house into the garden to see one of your beautiful fish flapping around, or even dead on the grass beside the pond.

Great build, very beautiful. I put a small plastic pond in the ground 12 years ago .....didn't like it so done the same as you. I looked into kio ponds and built right across the garden so the only way over to the other side was via a stainless framed arch bridge. 6ft deep Japanese style garden and pond. Now 12 years on I'm still loving it 😁 Have you thought about a pagoda over the top ? Stop the direct sun light.

Hi mate, nice looking pond, Im thinking of making my current pond bigger and sleepers would be an easy way to do it. I am just a bit concerned on how the sleepers will weather over time. They look nice when new, But possibly not so nice over time. My question for you is, What is the top wood treated with, or what do you intend treating it with that wont effect the fish when it rains ? Thanks
@mike-mack5 жыл бұрын
The sleepers will silver over time, they look better as they age. P2 superseal is a fish safe wood preserve, i've used it on the end cuts
@JB121325 жыл бұрын
Lovely pond, super neat and the finish blends it in to the garden. Can I ask a couple of questions please? How many litres is it? Also the thickness of the sleepers and length. And I take it there is a concrete base which these sleepers sit on, are they bolted into the concrete base? Sorry for the questions, working on ideas for my new pond and to do this instead of block would be great and as I have not seen a pond this large done in sleepers it's inspiring. Thank you.

Looks nice but..... The problem with sleepers if your unlucky like me is..... over time, the termites and other insects etc can eat the whole inside of 1, it obviously takes a while but eventually if it happens your be redoing it. Better off IMO just doing it out of block to begin with. they aint gonna eat concrete, Also IMO, sleepers are like fence panels, Nice when they are new, but they never stay like it and you can never paint them the same as they were originally.
