I remember visiting the movie set on a school outing. We didn't see any of the actors but it was quite exciting, must have been in 1979. Moved from Malta in 1980. Great memories. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Steve, I could see the different between now & then ; but it still great to watch and listen to, walking on those rocks reminds me how sharp some of them where, also reminds me the last time I did some rock walk round the edges like that was at the Azure Window in Gozo few months before it got washed away, Sahha from B/mouth & Thanks.

Great video Steve! And fun music too :) Did you get one of the divers to do a swim-through? Nice shot that! This has to go on my bucket list now..looks so nice there. And the Popeye movie..haha, will have to watch it again! Careful of the sun mate..looked like it was getting to you a bit towards the end. And tshirts like the ones i wear in Asia make things more bearable when vlogging in the heat. Take care

hello Thanks for the comments, love your vids, just got back from Tuscany, i got a tummy bug so lost a few days , over there, That videos it was in a heat wave so was very hot that day, and i did a lot of walking, i was a bit pissed, maybe that showed i tried to get into this cave and was a bit difficult, some rocks had fallen and blocked it off, yes my friend took under water last year , its a nice cave, but, malta/gozo as got so many more gems...better then this !!!...Wish i could dive one of my regrets in life, but was not one of the things we bothered about in Birmingham, in the 60s/70s when i was a kid....lol where are you now ??

Englishman in Malta Hi Steve. Hope you enjoyed Tuscany and are feeling better now! I'm still in Taiwan working through my travel videos. Pretty skint right now, so crashing at my friends place while I come up with a solution. Yeah, I did notice the cave looked difficult to get through/under. I hope it's not dangerous for the divers..the terrain does look temperamental. You could always take some diving classes! My dads the same..grew up around the same time and never had swimming lessons at school. Shame really because he would never go in the sea on holiday. Just a quick question..what's the backpacker scene like in Malta? Types of accommodation, rough daily budget? Really hope to visit when I'm back in Europe :)

@@EnglishmaninMalta We have a Danish born, now Maltese married female guide (a Noble Woman!!!), who is also a guide for other travel companies than "Dansk Folkeferie", and whom also arranges walks on the Islands, when possible (And as a local Representative for Danish: "Atlantic Airways", she has arranged a short "Danish Speak" in The Luqa Airport, when we leave from the Park and have arrived in three local busses)! But she has made walks where we eventually also go out by public or hired busses, and walk back to the Park. At one time I took part in a walk to and on an otherwise closed, private island near Valetta (a guard at the gate), which is intended to soon be covered with Luxury Housing and a Harbour for - large private yachts, though it is part of an old former fort (It was used as a set for the very popular American series: "Game of Thrones" - also with several Danish actors in primary roles!). She had applied for a special permit for a visit and it was granted, and I was lucky to be among those participating! But she has also made walks through a Public Maltese Park which ended close to Popeye Village, before walking back to the park by the road. And normally, when we arrive by bus from the airport, we come round Popeye Village! It is named as a local attraction and with its partly Danish history, we also may buy tickets with a discount, if wanted.

Be careful of which flowers you take home. There are rare Orchids that grow on the Island.
@finncarlbomholtsrensen11884 жыл бұрын
As You, of course, know, the "Popeye village" set was designed and built by a Danish Architect: Hans Munk Hansen, while building the large "Danish Village" in Mellieha! The main actors, Robin Williams and Shelley Duval lived in the Park during the filming! And if lucky, it is possible to stay in the same houses in Mellieha. As it is close by I have walked there several times, and I also found the actual film at one time.
@finncarlbomholtsrensen11884 жыл бұрын
"Mellieha Park" is our Maltese Home when on Malta, as a Dane coming down. It was built as cooperation between Danish and Maltese Unions, but today it is fully (99%) owned by the Danes!

And I do wonder why they don't try to sell the actual film in the park's kiosk/ticket sale, as of merchandise? I tried to look inside but they have absolutely nothing there but selling tickets to the set. I could imagine that the guests eventually would like to bring something home also? It is only a few places you are able to walk in an actual set of a film, and it should originally have been torn down when the filming ended. It was extremely costly to build with specially imported Canadian wood. The film did pay for its costs but it totally drowned in the "Jurassic Park", and other large Blockbusters much more attention, so today it is mostly considered a fiasco!
@finncarlbomholtsrensen11884 жыл бұрын
@@EnglishmaninMalta When You made a film in Mellieha, I think You, during the filming, looked for something to eat or drink? In the Park we also have a public "Supermarket" and several restaurants near the entrance, so You could eventually have visited the park also.
