The Vectrex I played at a friends home in 1983 and it was the closest thing to a arcade machine. My favorite game then was "Scramble". Iconic console. I am happy u acquired such a rare console "Gem"! o7

Welcome to the vectrex club! Its a great machine... if it wasn't for its original retail price it probably would have become a lot more popular. There is nothing like it.

I used to have a GCE (1of) and and several MBs. Sold before I retired to SE Asia. I bought a few in 1983 from my local Woolworths for £30 each and kept them in storage. All boxed and unopened.

This is the very first game console that I bought myself. Our family had an Atari 2600 but I can't recall how we ever got it. Always loved and wanted the Vectrex. Think I got it on a closeout sale at a Toys "R" Us around 1884. Wish that I had bought them all. A brand new in the box would bring in $1000 or more. The IP has been shuffled around, so it's unclear as to whether or not there is any hope for a new model. I remember reading a statement that somebody was planning a handheld version but nothing has come of it, thus far. It would be a real hit if they used color vector graphics instead of raster emulation. Really appreciate your excellent work cataloging classic game systems, as well as covering the never-ending plethora of handhelds and every et cetera gaming thing out there. Have watched hours of your content. Good information.

I bought the Vectrex when I was stationed in W. Germany in the early 80s, knowing that it was going to be 220V and I would return to the states at 110V. Upon returning, I showed it to my dad, who informed me we had a 220V outlet where the air conditioner was plugged. He was so blown away by it he took it and somehow converted it to 110V. We both had a friendly competition seeing who could get the high score in Mine Storm. My favorite game is Fortress of Narzod. The Vectrex doesn't always emulate very well. I haven't been able to get Mine Storm working, and some games such as Armor Attack have glitchy sound. But Fortress of Narzod has played very well.

No. This unit isn't malfunctioned. That electrical buzzing sound (like a power transformer) was there when this device was brand new. The Nerd demonstrated one when YT was just gaining momentum.
@timvangenechten5258 Жыл бұрын
It is indeed a side effect of the design. But there are mods to reduce it. Check out the vectrex buzz-off kit.
@timvangenechten5258 Жыл бұрын
@@jkeelsnc I agree, I would never mod my unit to remove it. But fot those who want to, its possible. Just put an amplifier at a better possition than the original one. No more interference and no more buzzing. And no more authentic Vectrex 😊

I'm fairly certain I played with a Vectrex demo unit in Macy's in downtown NYC when my family visited the city in 1982(?). The console wasn't on the market for very long. I never saw it sold locally or in Toys 'R Us or Kiddie City when I visited the toy stores. At this point, Vectrex is almost an urban legend. It's one of the very few electronic devices I wish I had owned. About 3-5 of my all-time favorite games are vector games. Some of the best late 1970s and early 1980s arcade games were vector games -- Asteroids, Battlezone 3D, Star Castle, Star Trek (Sega), Tempest, and the last great vector graphics game, Star War Arcade (Atari). After Star Wars Arcade, vector videogame development pretty much stopped and everything was raster-/sprite-based and later polygons. Modern computers with LCD screens can emulate vector graphics fairly well. Vector games look like crap on standard-def CRTs; you need hi-def TV sets to get decent vector reproduction. I was never able to get ANY Vectrex emulator to work well on either of the 2 PC's I've owned!

I love mine. Strangely, I ended up finding mine at an automotive swap meet. Think a boot sale with car parts. I was thrilled, and even got a bonus Evercade thrown in as well for $300!

Very nice video of the system. I really loved the shots of the moving 3D car. Supersharp lines, almost a flipboard drawing style with a neon twist. Also the vertical tube style is great.

I have one and I also have the light pen for the art cartridge.. it was a great game. It also had the first talking game Spike.. star Trek and Web wars is probably the best games maded for the system. they also made 3-D glasses for a roller coaster game, but they quickly took it off the market . kids were having seizures.. and they were supposed to make a keyboard for it with a computer module. my grand children love playing it.
