I noticed he doesn't add any cold water, the box says to add cold water after the hot, but my jello isn't firm enough for cubes so I'll try this.

You should have said during the video that you had to grease the molds before making the jello. It would have saved me from doing all the damage just before my son's birthday who absolutely wanted this cake for his birthday. Watching the video again to see where my mistake was, I see very well that you put something in your dishes. You should have specified
