I've been doing ballet since I was 3 and I absolutely hate it when people say "dance is easy" or "ballet is for girls" or "ballet is easy!" Because no, it's not! It takes precision, measurement, balance and art
@biancak86378 жыл бұрын
Ikr. Sometimes I wish ballet was considered as an art AND as a sport. Like seriously, using pointe shoes hurt. Younger boys specifically (>20) who don't do ballet, just assume we are all little girly ballerinas that are weak and fragile. I could rant about this all day...

polka I thought that was cool too. Sometimes ballet academies are a little more open to different looks I think because some dancers go on to being in contemporary companies. That's not the same story when it comes to ballet companies.
@wowitscat8 жыл бұрын
I don't think that the companies intentionally discriminate against curvy girls, it's just that it's a lot easier to be a good dancer when you're thin. You can spin faster, jump higher, and it's easier on your partner, especially if you have lifts.

I love how they actually help you at an audition and correct you. At most auditions I've been to, (I don't audition, I'm too young, I watch my teammates) they just watch you and give you looks and you don't get anything out of it. I know you get the 'experience' but when you've done tens of auditions, it's not much. I love these teachers :)

@TheStockwell8 жыл бұрын
When you work hard to be the best at something you want to be the best at, to get the message you're just not that good - even if you're let down easily - is a huge blow. Dance is a communal activity, done with other people. Not making the cut is like being told you don't belong in the family. I'm a painter. If I have a showing and nobody buys anything, it might bother me but I can go back to my studio and, all alone, continue to create. A dancer can't say, "Well, fine. I'll just dance all by myself, do my own choreography, and create my own sets, costumes, and lighting."

More likely, it's because you aren't EXACTLY what a company is looking for. You could be a brilliant dancer with flawless technique and enormous presence, but if a dance company is packing their ranks with dancers of a specific height and shape, then forget it. Balanchine was always looking for a exact type of dancer. If you didn't fit the profile, that was it - and with so many dancers out there to chose from, a dance company can decide they want redheads of a particular height, weight, and neck length - and get it.

To clear some confusion: Joffrey Ballet School (the one depicted in the video) is NOT the prestigious Joffrey Ballet Academy (which was based in NYC but is now in Chicago). While Joffrey Ballet School is a good ballet school, it is definitely not the best in the nation (not even in the top 5) and is far from being the best in the world.

as someone who’s attended a few joffrey intensives, it’s definitely not “the cream of the crop” but they still work you! max seems to DEFINITELY be acting. this isn’t how he normally is. all of the dancers that were picked are all super nice, and anna is actually one of the head teachers at joffrey nyc’s goddaughter. all if not MOST of the dancers at the audition were joffrey trainees. meaning they train year round with joffrey. just some fun facts! i always enjoyed my time at joffrey

Kinda dislike the “Survivor” reality show kinda vibe. I don’t know, it just feels kinda sloppy and amateur when ballet is so much more. The two guys talk/hype way too much, and the appreciation for the art itself feels kinda lost. Just my opinion, but I feel like it soils the picture of elegance, consistent grace, grueling work, and mental strength that I feel ballet is really about. It just focuses on the cheap and unimpressive drama side, which is frankly really boring as so many other shows do the same. The way they are portraying the auditions doesn’t do justice to the actual process and art of ballet.

Me. Four years old. Ballet school. Day one. I was so excited! All I wanted to do was dance. I remember wanting to be a ballerina like just about every other girl my age. After the first 30 minute lesson, my mother came to get me. She asked the ballet instructor how I did. She replied, “She did fine, but she’ll never be a professional ballerina.” My mother pulled me out of the class and I wasn’t allowed to continue. I’m sure if I knew how to say F- you at that age I would have…and should have!!! Now, as a mom myself, I have always let my kids take any classes they want, as long as doing it makes them happy.

Joffery had a fascinating background. I discovered he was the son of an Afghan and an Italian immigrant at a time when not many people from Central Asia were immigrating to North America. He took his ballet to Afghanistan in the 1950s, that must've been spectacular. Wish I could have been on that tour.

This is the Original and only Joffrey Ballet School located New York City and Founded by Robert Joffrey in 1952. They also offer world renowned summer dance camps all over the country. Audition now for the summer programs. summer.joffreyballetschool.com

But no longer affiliated with the original company The Joffrey Ballet, correct? The Joffrey Ballet is now in Chicago and the Joffrey Academy feeds into the company. This is "just" the brick & morter left behind with the same name. While it may be a great school it isn't part of The Joffrey Ballet.
@joffreyschool8 жыл бұрын
The Joffrey in Chicago is the TOURING company and never established as an educational institution. We appreciate your persistence however you are simply incorrect. The only Joffrey Ballet School is in NYC and was founded by Robert Joffrey in 1952. It is the only Joffrey educational institution that teaches Robert Joffrey curriculum.
