Pretty sure it is Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saens - I heard it in an earlier episode and I know that’s the song they played - I’m just not sure wether or not that’s the one they actually used for competition. If so - they can’t ask for permission to use it, Saint-Saens died in 1921 LOL

I think the biggest problem was the amount of cutting done -- like I know we need to see the reactions from the choreographers, but I have no idea what this dance looks like completed. Maybe have them talk and then flashback to the part of the dance they're referring to? I just wish I saw the actual dance and not just chopped up parts! But I know there's a time limit to these episodes, so...

To summarise the entire comment section 'Thoroughly unimpressive especially for such a highly regarded ballet school'. Also what is Joffrey doing on dance mom's turf? There are other competitions that specialise in ballet and ballet contemporary pieces rather than this one which is all inclusive however tends to lean towards contemporary, lyrical, jazz etc. Seems odd....
@eu9ne7 жыл бұрын
well let's be honest, with their lacking technique, artistry and timing they would not do well at all at a competition such as yagp for example. But yes i agree, they shouldn't enter into this type of mainstream competition only so that they can place higher. Honestly it is just lazy
@worldsoull7 жыл бұрын
Am I the only one who didn't care for their choreography at all? I just don't get anything out of it, and for me personally it looks like they are trying too hard to be artistic and contemporary.. That's just my preference though!

I agree about the choreography. And I'm also bothered by Kate's lack of technique. Her port de bras, specifically her hands, are horrible. Her turnout in arabesque is lacking and her feet sickle quite a bit. I'm stunned she is an advanced student at this school and these things haven't been corrected. I honestly felt that I was watching a recreational dancer and not a pre-professional dancer.
@worldsoull7 жыл бұрын
I feel like a lot of the dance was modern movement in between poorly executed lifts.. I know they wanted to push the dancers, but the boys were not ready for those lifts. Also, if they are going to be professional dancers in a company one day, why didn't they do a dance en pointe? Maybe at a future competition?

While I wasn't amazed by the performance, I think the biggest problem was the amount of editing cuts during the dance. Yes, I want to hear comments from the guys about what they think about the lift or the spacing, but we haven't even seen the full dance in any of the last seven episodes! Couldn't we have just heard they're comments after and then flashed back to the part they're referring to? Just, in my opinion, cutting that much of the dance, even if I know it's because of the time limit, seriously limits the dancers' performance. And I'm not saying their performance was amazing, just that we didn't really have much to judge it off of as we haven't seen a good, complete version of the dance itself yet. Either way, can't wait until next episode to see what they'll being doing next! Despite my comments, I really do love this show because it's the most realistic depiction of ballet/dance I've seen in a show, obviously because they're not trying to focus solely on drama for views sake.

I'm from Chicago and I've seen the Joffrey Ballet. I found this on their website. "Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, is the only training program owned, operated or endorsed by The Joffrey Ballet. The Joffrey Ballet is not affiliated with any other dance training or school program, including the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. The Joffrey Academy, located in the Exelon Education Center at Joffrey Tower in Chicago, Illinois is the only school that follows the organizational mission, training syllabi, and artistic vision of The Joffrey Ballet. No other program, including those holding the Joffrey name, is sanctioned by The Joffrey Ballet."

So glad I didn't let my daughter leave her competitive dance team to join the Joffrey Ballet School when she was invited...why are they taking a ballet school to commercial dance competitions? I don't understand the point of this. You are supposed to be a ballet school, not a competitive dance team. Be a ballet school. Put on a ballet or something.
@worldsoull7 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking! I thought they'd be working more on pointe and doing classical or modern ballets.
@thoughtsofaleo29167 жыл бұрын
They still dance ballet, but they're getting supplemented with extra dance like modern and contemporary. Going to competitions and working in Joffrey Elite as well as with these renowned choreographers are just more they can add to their resumes while competing advertises Joffrey's name in the competition world. There's not much harm coming from this. We also saw them take more traditional class next episode, so maybe there will be a neo-classical piece with more ballet elements for the next dance?

What little I know of the dance world, a family member in competitive dance, I am puzzled at best, trying to understand how this is THE Joffre Ballet school, a dream for so many. Is this a thing of the past? The performances were mediocre at best. What is the back story for this program? Is it a subprogram that is an addition to THE Joffre Ballet? Is it using the same name? The competitions are incredibly small, almost no competition (not that the other studios do not put forth amazing numbers) I just can not see the spirit of excellence that I had once come to trust, from this legendary acadamy. What am I missing?

In contrast, I’ve watched videos on the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, and the Russian dancers are so much more disciplined and in control...even their youngest beginners.
