Great video as always. One note about security patching, definitely worth using unattended-upgrades. I’ve saved so much time by doing that, and you can set which updates you want to be done automatically (I only do security ones, I like to do the others by hand). ☺️
@SB-qm5wg4 ай бұрын
I'm of the opposite thought and despise unattended-upgrades and remove it even on my personal installs.

I agree that security updates can generally be left to be automatic, but I like to decide about other applications.

Is everything you build exists in your home folder? Another question is, if I build docker items/apps, how much of space I need for present and future whatever docker projects I will make? And as a third question, If I make my home folder a separate drive (so that I can change to bigger if fills up) could that affect, hit performance of running docker apps?
@AwesomeOpenSource4 ай бұрын
Yes, you can put everything in the home folder if you want. I actually create a parent level "docker" folder, then put all the docker applications inside that each in their own folders. As for space, it just depends on what applications you're running and what they are using the sapce for. If you are using it for NextCloud syncing, then it may need a lot of space, but it uses the drive you map for it, so with any application you can map a network drive like and nfs share, or even a NAS if you want.

So, if you run your own, you can opt not to have that prompt or requirement for your rooms. If you're using their services, just create an account to use. It was essentially to cut down on spamming an dother nefarious activity using their servers.

Hi, Q if ok with you? I thought my docker knowledge was much better but.. better safe than sorry. I already have your-list-my-get app mongodb so will it add just another table inside if I type the mongodb name from your last video? Well, let's see - like the guy from Killercoda labs says - better one test than 1000 talks/discussions... great video as always... I feel stupid repeating it so I'll just comment for the algorithm. By now you probably know how good you and your content are...
@AwesomeOpenSource4 ай бұрын
You can. It would mean you need to have the application and mongo container in the same non-default docker network. Then you can refer in the rocketchat compose file to the mongodb container by name, and remove the actual mongodb section from that compose file.

It was a good chat but it's really bad that after getting a solid community they are switching to a commercial model, removing features already present in the community edition (like recently availability status and read receipts). Also quite unfair their explanations to the devs and supporter in the community (the just mentioned features were removed due to "performance" issues and put behind a paywall)
@AwesomeOpenSource4 ай бұрын
I can't speak to any of those things. I have seen it indeed move to a community and pro edition over the years. I think for any popular open source software to withstand the test of time, they have to find ways to make revenue and keep dedicated people on the project though. I too, am not a fan of paywall features, but it is one of the many models open source use for the purpose of keeping the lights on.
