At least that shit can be understood with a lot of human-level language written in. Compiled code requires you not only know assembly, but _that specific platform's assembly_ - as well as the capabilities, behaviours, and quirks of that particular platform (you have to know the hardware in order to understand what the software is doing at that level). A lot of it can be generalised to some extent, but x86 vs x64 vs ARM etc. (especially that last one) will all require a ton of domain-specific and hardware-specific knowledge still. In comparison, C code is "explain to me like I'm 5". XD

if only any crack was as simple as xoring machine id with text phrase etc.. however sometimes with bad protection, its as easy as finding a certain routine and hex editing one (or a few) instruction(s) to be a NOP instead maybe. But there is a lot more to learn here for most, but good intro to basic reversing. I know 0.001% about the world of modern copy protection, this stuff is mostly pretty high level with all the good protection schemes now, besides just packing and whatnot. There are some very strong systems out there, but usually the problem is enforcement of this, without slowing the software down significantly by putting the checks everywhere in the code, etc.

As a software developer, I believe that people should pay for the software they use, because if nobody pays, software cannot advance, however, I don't like when some companies like "Adobe" charges monthly fees for offline software, it would be more logical to pay for an update, but monthly or yearly for the same software, I don't pay a subscription to use my computer or my fridge, and so it should be the same for software.
