I followed your instructions for an install in TrueNAS docker. It worked, but I did have to add root as user to the environments file. Now I'm getting an enoent error whenever I try to upload an image. Have you had this?
@AwesomeOpenSourceАй бұрын
No, but if you've treid once and failed, make sure to remove the database volume, then try again. Sometimes it will cause the enoent error as well.

I got a Pleroma instance running but I'm not sure how to set up the email based or invite based registrations. Even if I myself try to create a new account, I don't get a email to confirm my email. I also can't reset the password through email. I have a account because I am a single user instance and I manually created the account, but if I want a friend to join, they can't join. Any insight into how to do this? I even put in a email address in the mailer settings portion of the Admin dashboard without success.

All I can offer is a link to the documentation. It looks like it's all cli stuff still docs.pleroma.social/backend/administration/CLI_tasks/user/

@@AwesomeOpenSource thanks for this! I ended up using Mailgun (for anyone reading this at a later time). I guess Gmail got rid of their free SMTP protocol so I was basically constantly running into a wall because what I was trying to do was impossible. I'm sure there are other ways as there are many adaptors to select from but I asked other Pleroma users and I got several answers, Mailgun being one of them. There is a free plan which can be used but if you are intending to have a large instance this might not be enough for some use cases. For me and less than 10 friends it was fine however. It was possible to do this in the Admin-FE without needing to touch the CLI.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble. I am still using the same version I've run since that install, so never seen that issue.

Does NGINX Proxy Manager work for tcp based connections and non web traffic.
@AwesomeOpenSource2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it will forward non-web traffic. I don't know that it's specifically limited to that, but I only forward 80 and 443 to that machine, so it's limited to any traffic on those ports. I suppose you could forward all traffic through on all ports, and see if it deals with it...but I can't guarantee that it will.
@jasbansal2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can both TCP and UDP. Have a search for NGINX “stream”

I am frustrated by the comments here praising Elon. He's a terrible person and awful at running twitter.

It's all good. Everyone has the right to his / her own opinion. The best part is that this provides an alternative for those who want it. I presonally love the fediverse and the growth it's seen in recent months.

people in the comments really butthurt about elon musk. your comment was not political at all. these guys are extremely sensitive.

This is the first time I felt it was necessary to comment . While I read your other response your very much political statement about the purchase make me wonder how much of a actual open source person you are . Twitter code been a bloated closed source mess for years . The techs had reached in and made the place a one-sided left leaning mess I would have thought that you would have been thrilled with the changes happening . It actually has a chance to live up to its potential now. Love your helpful videos

I'm not in any way trying to share my political views in my videos. I can see how it could come across that way, but it wasn't my intention. It's true, I don't like what's been done with Twitter personally, but if it works for you, then continue to use it. I don't think my thoughts on any platform will ever bring one to ruin. I am an Open Source Advocate. If twitter goes Open Source, I'll take another look at it for sure. I like the concepts embodied in Activity Pub applications, the federated model is great, as we aren't wholly dependent on a single company, but instead can choose how we moderate our servers and the content being posted there. I only try to provide alternatives that exist in the open source world so that everyone knows there are choices available. it is completely up to the individual to choose what they end up using.

Man, leave the politics out of the channel, this is not going to make new friends, in any case it seems like Twitter is now a better place.
@AwesomeOpenSource2 жыл бұрын
Again, not anything political to it. Just expressing my opinion of the way twitter has been handled since the sale. I am here to give open source options. If twitter works for you, then keep using it. If you ever feel like it’s not good anymore you know there are options.

@@AwesomeOpenSource I have been watching your videos for "years" now and never ever felt estranged by what you said. from an IT point I can't flaw it at all, and the core of your content has always been true to what you set out to do, there is absolutely no problem in diversifying although by the sounds of it, it was unintentional and probably not meant to offend viewers at all. In my experience, 99% of people who feels unwelcome will never do so publicly but will abscond by just not getting involved or getting their "fix" somewhere else. As for Mastadon, and all the other clones of Twitter, they are plain "Rubbish" they are not substitutes at all, on close analysis they serve a bigger master, most, no, almost all of the Open Source world has gone crazy, they are not free anymore, at least not for the version that can actually do something. Slowly but sorely the dominoes are falling and they are falling fast, I am resubscribeing!

I enjoyed your channel for so long, and you're getting into making political statements. Wow. Bring politics again and I'll probably unsubscribe. Twitter has been a cesspit for years, and I left. The new owner is why I came back to Twitter. Less spambots, and there is a more even handed application of moderation, instead of banning perfectly legal speech... Twitter WAS a place where people were bullied, banned, punked, just because people want to silence people with different ideas. What I don't get, is how Musk is being painted as right-wing, yet.... I've never known him to actually be right-wing. He's a "let's make the world suck less if we can" kind of guy, it seems... with a sense of humor.
@AwesomeOpenSource Жыл бұрын
I'd hate for you, or anyone to unsubscribe because of an opinion I hold. It's fine for people to disagree. Conversation is how we learn to become more understanding of others. I appreciate your thoughts. I see any social media as a place for opinions. This is just one more way to take control of your data, so no single corporation can do exactly what you disliked about twitter to start with. Cheers to you, and I hope you'll stick around, because I have tons more amazing open source options.
