The 2nd one is not as popular. It's kind of weird and a bit dark in places but the 3rd one really rocks with Sean Connery playing his father. A 4th film was made a few years ago but it did not do very well at the box office.

The markings on the headpiece told him how long to make the staff, and which hole to put it in. That's why the Nazi's were digging in the wrong place, because they only had the one side of the headpiece, that was burned into that guy's hand.

Fun fact: the part where Indy just shoots the guy with the giant sword (at 13:14) wasn't supposed to happen. Steven Spielberg actual had a sword fight scene planned out but Harrison Ford & lots of the crew ended up getting sick with dysentery and felt that it would've been too taxing on them, so Harrison suggested that he just shoot him instead LOL

another funny story is about the African Queen movie with Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn!!the boat they sailed on had a bad filter on it and so the crew drank water from the river with croc and hippo dung in it!John Houston and Bogey didnt get sick like most of the crew on the movie because they drank whiskey all of the time!

Glad you liked it. I know some young people who weren't all that impressed, they don't get what the big deal is. But you have to put into perspective that in 1981, Raiders really kind of paved the way for this kind of adventure film.

I used to watch this Trilogy as a kid all the time. My dad bought a box set on VHS and I watched it over and over again! the 4th one was initially dissappointing but on rewatches its okay, just a lot more cgi/green screen use.

The 4th one is given a lot of criticism, and rightfully so, it doesn't hold up next to Lost Ark or Last Crusade. I never was fond of Temple of Doom, and don't think the 4th one was much worse than that. So the 4th one holds up in the Indy series when you consider the 2nd one. But the best ones are 1 and 3.

Adore this movie so much George Lucas created this movie as a tribute to the action heroes of his favourite 1930s matinée serials from how the movie was filmed to the dialogue and fight scenes. The music is also just so iconic now this along with Star Wars is up here as my all time favourite movies. Should note that the "sequel" Temple of Doom is actually a prequel set a year before the first movie. This is a detail a lot of people miss as it's never really stated unless you catch the date. The the Last Crusade on the other hand is a sequel to the first movie set two years after Raiders of the Lost Ark. Timeline Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1935) Raiders of the Lost Ark (1936) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1938) Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (1958) Indiana Jones 5 (Due in 2023 - set in the 1960s) Random recommendation but the Mummy (1999) is another great watch with a very Indian Jones feel to it. Also if you love to see more Ford i recommend Blade Runner: The Final Cut. The movies from 1982 but i recommend checking out the Final Cut from 2007 which is by far the best version of the film. There's over 10 different versions of of the film so it can be a right pain to find the "right" i guess version, Final Cut is just a masterpiece.

I own all the versions of Blade Runner and 100% The final cut is best, a very close second is Ridley Scott's official Directors Cut from 1992. The Theatrical cut is the worst version IMO. (w/ voice over) The film is a visual extravaganza and, I agree, a masterpiece.

Originally Tom Selleck from Magnum, P.I. was gonna play Indiana Jones but production was gonna start at the same time as Magnum so he had to back out. Turns out a writer's strike happened so production on Magnum was delayed until after filming was already finished so he would have actually had the time to play Indiana! I think Harrison Ford does a great job though! I can't wait for the 5th one!

If you find that warehouse concept at the end interesting, just if you ever get the time, is the show Warehouse 13. It basically takes that idea and puts you into the perspective of the warehouse employees who go out and gather dangerous artifacts like the Ark (though usually to lesser degrees of intensity lol) and is basically mystery/action/comedy as they try to track things down and solve whoever is using the items and figuring out how it works.

I absolutely love this movie. I got into history and archaeology because of this film. Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones is one of the greatest character performances ever, in my opinion. I love his swagger, I love that he is human, and not invincible or infallible. I like that it has a mystic element, I love the stunts, I love the drama, I love the comedy. I love the action and I think the dialogue is great too. I cannot praise this film enough.

Nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture but won for: Best Sound Mixing Best Sound Editing Best Visual Effects Best Film Editing Best Production Design. The sound effects of the punches are that of someone whacking a pile of leather jackets with a baseball bat. The sounds of Indy's handgun are that of a Winchester rifle. Harrison Ford had dhierrea during the scene where he shoots the swordsman, cutting the scene short. Jack Nicholson, Tim Matheson, Peter Coyote, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Jeff Bridges, Nick Nolte, Kurt Russell, Perry King, John Shea, and Clint Eastwood were almost cast as Indiana Jones.

Fun fact, the scene where Indy shots the guy in black with the sword, they had done that take multiple times and it was hot out. On that take he was so tired that instead of the big fight scene that was supposed to happen, he just fired the gun. Director loves it so much he kept that take.

the Ark was put in Warehouse 13 :P WH13 was a scifi show in the early 2000's on the SciFi channel. It was a fun show about artifacts, like the Ark would is, that are supernatural and the warehouse agency that is in charge of obtaining the artifacts and keeping them from causing the world harm.

Hi James! Top of the morning to ya, laddie! 4:10 - Fun fact: The golden idol that Indy is going after, is a prop you can see in Solo: A Star Wars Story, towards the end where Han, Q'ira and company are in Dryden Voss' office. It's on the table with all of the jewels on it. 5:11 - That was the stone door hitting the floor. lol 6:00 - Both the "running from the boulder" scene, and Belloche holding up the idol and speaking in the native language are referenced in other movies. The "stone" scene in the Weird Al movie "UHF", and the Belloche line in "Fanboys". 7:30 - Just barely. But yes, Hitler actually DID have agents searching around the world for religious artifacts and "cult" related items. 15:34 - From the inscription on the headpiece. 22:05 - There are no rules in a street fight. 30:30 - Probably the best thing can could have been done with the Ark. Store it amongst a shitload of other crates and allow it to be forgotten once again. 31:55 - As others have said, Temple of Doom (timeline wise; one year prior to this movie) and Last Crusade (timeline 3 years or so after this one) are both good movies in their own right. The most recent one was really unnecessary, and being honest, didn't hold a candle to the original trilogy. I hear that #5 is in the works, but I really have no interest in seeing it, as both Ford and Indy are getting too old for that sort of thing. I do recommend watching 2 and 3, but if you decide to watch #4, lower your expectations. Also, the Indiana Jones movies were Ford's first "big" blockbusters after he was in Star Wars. He had done a movie with Lucas before Star Wars; "American Graffiti" was pretty good, but didn't really show Ford's full range of talent. Star Wars made Harrison Ford a star, but Indiana Jones made him a superstar. Two very different franchises, all blockbusters, cemented Ford as a great actor. He has gone on to star in several really good movies. The Fugitive and Air Force One come to mind immediately, but there are others. The funny thing is, he wanted Han Solo to die in Return of the Jedi. He felt that Han had no more story to tell, and that he should commit self-sacrifice for the other characters, and that it would create tension that maybe none of the other characters were "safe" from being killed off. George Lucas felt otherwise, and we know how it went down.

I love the musical score to this movie. The archeological part, the mystical elements, and the storyline has to be all taken with a grain of salt. You have to suspend your disbelief and just let yourself be taken in by the adventure of it. Are there plot holes? Sure! Is Harrison Ford amazing? Absolutely! Why didn't he leave it where it was? If you listened, right before he discovered Indy's correct dig location, Beloch was talking about plan B, which was to bring in the bulldozers. It would have been a huge mistake to assume the Germans would just leave. Also, the movie would have been over!

The markings on the medallion indicated how long to make the staff. The Nazis had obtained a 1 sided copy of the medallion from the burned hand of the gestapo agent. But there were markings on both sides of the medallion, and both sides were needed to know the length.

Yeah, that's how they learn this. Personally, I thought it was pretty clear. But I'm curious to know what you were thinking about the scene. Maybe the poisoned dates matter was a distraction? Well, anyway, what _I_ think is a better unanswered question is, how did Indy and Sallah find a staff of the proper height, or get one made, that quickly? I mean, it has to fit properly into those slots, _and_ accommodate the medallion at the top, so they couldn't just grab a tree branch or something (even if there were any trees at the dig site). Were there just a bunch of staves of different heights already made, or what?

Classic adventure film, you will never see anything like it (and the two immediate sequels) ever again. Hollywood would just vomit a CGI mess these days. Fun Fact: The famous scene in which Indy shoots a marauding and flamboyant swordsman was not in the original script. Harrison Ford was supposed to use his whip to get the sword out of his attacker's hands, but the food poisoning he and the rest of the crew had gotten made him too sick to perform the stunt. After several unsuccessful tries, Ford suggested he just shoot the guy. Steven Spielberg immediately took him up on the idea, and the scene was successfully filmed.

One of Harrison Ford's best roles, in my opinion, is in the 1986 film "The Mosquito Coast." Harrison Ford usually plays action heroes - Indiana Jones, Han Solo, Blade Runner, etc. - but in "The Mosquito Coast," he plays a jaded inventor/possible mad scientist who moves his family away to Central America. It's unsure if he's disillusioned, let his obsessions with science get the best of him, a combination of both, or perhaps something else altogether. Harrison Ford said that it was his favorite role of his own career.

Firstly Indy is an archeologist so if he knows where a significant artifact of history is he will go get it. Secondly his mission as sanctioned by the US government was to retrieve it to keep it out of Nazi hands. Third, the Nazis would have found it ultimately, since they knew the area it was only a matter of time. There had been no declaration of war yet with Germany so the US had no claim or stake in that dig in Cairo. It's a pretty smart movie.

A movie frm days before Paramount fell into the "Ed Wood Tarpit." Spielberg wanted to "do 'James Bond," but Lucas reminded him of cliffhanger movie serials of the 1930's. With their second choice for lead actor, another franchise was created. No, it wasn't. It was Pat Roach...who was a bad guy henchman in each of the original Indy trilogy films...he was also the big Sherpa from the fight scene in Nepal. He was a wrestler, too, but not the one you are thinking of.

So Harrison Ford was one of the biggest movie stars in the world in the 1980s and 90s. In addition to Stars Wars and Indiana Jones, he played Jack Ryan in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, he was the president in Air Force One, and he did this really great courtroom drama called Presumed Innocent that I highly recommend. There’s also The Fugitive, Working Girl, Sabrina, Blade Runner, and Witness.

Harrison Ford got his big break in George Lucas' first hit movie which was American Graffiti (very nostalgic movie about kids in California cruising around in their cars one night in the summer of 1962). He was good in it, but Lucas didn't want to re-use any of those actors in Star Wars and at first he was not in contention for the role of Han Solo. But... almost on a fluke... Ford (who was still not a big star) was doing some carpentry work for Francis Ford Coppola when some of the first actors came in to audition for Star Wars, and Lucas saw he was around so he had Ford help audition some of these actors by reading lines with them. Eventually Lucas decided that Ford was better for Han than any of the other actors who came to audition, and he got the part. Star Wars was a MONSTER hit, way bigger than American Graffiti, turning Harrison and the rest of the cast into movie stars. However, it wasn't until Lucas and Spielberg decided to collaborate on Indiana Jones, and Ford was brought in again to play the titular character, that he became a total superstar and eventually, for a time, the highest-paid actor in Hollywood. There were several young, avant garde filmmakers considered geniuses today that all came of age around the same time back in the 70s and all knew each other. Some were buddies at film school. Stephen Spielberg, George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese... all made their mark around the same time... all trying to buck the old Hollywood studio system that had dominated in the decades before and do stuff that was different, making the kind of movies that they wanted to see. It was an exciting time for movies.

The filmmakers mentioned above and many others were what were known as the "auteur" directors, most popular in the 1970s. They had much more creative control, usually wrote their own scripts, and most importantly, had more control over how the budget was allocated. However, by the end of the 1970s, several of the "auteur" directors had taken losses on several films in a row, and a 1980 film by Michael Cimino, "Heaven's Gate," was said to be the death knell for the auteur director. Heaven's Gate was the most expensive film made at the time, costing $44 million, and made back just over $1 million. Some of it was Cimino was such a perfectionist about the film that he caused it to go over budget several times over, and effectively caused the movie studio making it, United Artists, to go completely bankrupt, which had never happened before. After that, the movie studios themselves took over most of the budget and casting decisions. I wouldn't recommend "Heaven's Gate," because it's incredibly inconsistent in the pacing and over three hours long, but I don't want to stop anybody from watching movies. If nothing else, film history is a very fascinating field.

After Star Wars and Indiana Jones these are my favorite Harrison Ford movies: Air Force One (action) Working Girl (comedy) The Frisco Kid (comedy/western) Patriot Games (action/ political thriller) Regarding Henry (drama) The Fugitive (action/suspense) 42 If you only watch one more Indiana Jones movie it needs to be The Last Crusade! It's the best one. Temple of Doom is ok, not my favorite, it gets pretty dark, and there's one character the majority of people find mildly annoying to "please just die" annoying. Best Regards!

One of my favorite movies! Harrison Ford has been on LOTS of movies. Super famous actor. Some other great notable movies that he starred in are, Witness, The Fugitive, Air Force One. Should add them to your watch list. I also recommend watching The Lord Of The Rings trilogy on your channel! Arguably one of the best movies ever made.

ehhh, Witness yes, but The Fugitive isn't anything special performance wise and Air Force One is mediocre at best/kind of poor. LotR is not one of the best movies ever made, my goodness, watch more movies before just making such statements. Harrison Ford top performances are (aside from Han Solo and Indiana Jones) : Regarding Henry Mosquito Coast Witness in that order

Tom Selleck was their original choice for Indiana Jones. Unfortunately the TV series Magnum P.I. turned out to be a massive hit and he was contractually obligated to continue with that if that happened. If that series had flopped, Tom Selleck would have been known as Indiana Jones today. Strange thought that. I have seen some comments below saying this actor and that actor were 'almost cast' (and they don't even mention Selleck!). There is a difference between being considered and 'almost cast' though. The only actor who was 'almost cast' before Harrison Ford was chosen was actually Tom Selleck.

that has been pointed out by a lot of people Indy finds a treasurer. the treasure gets taken from him. If he did nothing the bad guys would have never found it on there own. there are 4 movies, a 5th on the way and a TV series between 3 and 4. Also a plot heavy video game and quite a few movies reference this film too. movies 4 and 5 do fall under the list of things that got brought back after 30 years of no films so it has that quality

The medallion had the info about the staff size, and where to put the staff. The medallion was two sided, the nazis only had the one side that was burned into the one guy's hand, which explains why they were digging in the wrong spot.
