Same, Kamaria xo. I don't get how the color of our skin can make us someone to hate, or make fun of, or fear. It doesn't make us less than anyone. I love how they still commented how beautiful these women were, but beauty isn't only personified by the outer layer, I think what's inside matters more. The problem is that a lot of times due to my skin color, some people won't even take the time to get to know the person I am without all of the misconceptions. Colorism is real in a lot of cultures. The paler, the better. It's just funny how some don't think it is just as wrong as racism.

@@ginatowner0t7 Asian colorism is just very well understood, this is a classic division into aristocracy and peasants. Because the peasants worked the land in the sun, their skin was tanned, while the skin of the aristocracy was light. Asian culture is too segregated and trying to be at least something better than others. But for me personally, as a Caucasian, this desire of Asians to be white looks a little strange. There are different races on Earth for a reason, we all have our own characteristics and our own beauty, uniqueness, originality, and it is stupid to follow any pattern.

Caucasians like myself get the stereotype that Africans aren't smart but finding out that the opposite is true in reality. We have been lied to far too long about Africans for probably some sinister reason. Finding out that all Caucasians and East Asians and everyone else have dark skin ancestors originally and that these ancestors that migrated in Europe and Asia at one time came from Africa. Plus Africans seem to be more spiritual then all people as well. With black people being the original version of humans, and the most intelligent of humans and the most spiritual of humans, they should be the ones teaching Caucasians and East Asians on how to balance education and spirituality. But things got flipped upside down and probably for a sinister reason by the most powerful and elites of the world and we can't rule out the possibility of these very few powerful elites of the world are under the control of another entity like we hear and read in many religious text. This Lucifer, Satan, Enki or whatever it is called has a hatred for humankind so maybe this is all happening because of its influence on humankind. Just taking a guess because there are many theories about this stuff.

This video is awesome. I'm biracial and I know how popular lighter skinned models are in our society so I am glad that darker skin tones are getting the recognization they deserve! I modeled for a couple of years for a small agencies but I gave up because I'm on the shorter side and models are ideal when they are tall.

Since I got into kdramas and into South korea's culture I've heard so many times koreans "complimenting" each other saying things like "wow you're so pretty because you have such fair and white skin" and even people comparing their skintones to stablish who had the lightest and the darkest tone within friendgroups and the darker ones were usually teased because of that? Like what the heck? It's not racist. It's colorism. Two different things. In Asia, the nobles stayed in while the peasants had to stay out and work in the fields, tanning their skin in the hot sun.

@@queenleslie5917 no, it's different, the reason why Korean people dislike darker skin among other Koreans is because of the reasons you said about classes so it's colourism. And yeah, colourism does come from internalised racism because for black people, it's not about class, it's about believing that white is beautiful and black is not because of racism. But their racism toward black people goes further than just skin, they have stereotypes about black people and are scared of and discriminate against black people. It's very similar to the way it happens in other places in the world but with more ignorance. It's not just colourism.

i am a black woman and I love Korean people so much, what makes me sad is the amount of racism against black people I hear that exist in south Korea because I would like to visit once or even live in Korea for a while, but hearing them compliment black women like that makes me so happy, it's bringing awareness that we are all people and we are all different, the amount of melanin in your skin doesn't have anything to do with the type of person you are, and you can be beautiful no matter what skin tone you have. what also makes me sad is how us black women are perceived ugly around the world bcz of our skin tones, our darkness, our round shapes, and for our kinky hair, we are the least desired group of women just because of features that we are born with and have nothing we can do about it, I really hope that the message spreads around the world and hate towards people bcz of their different features stops, and every one start to see beauty in different forms.

Heejae's reaction about discriminating because of skin color really got to me. I'm Hispanic and between my older and younger sisters, I was the darkest. People would comment on that and some asked if I had a different mom or dad. It got to me so much that o started feeling very insecure and depressed. Through the years as some made the same, or worse comments I started thinking that since i couldn't change my skin color maybe I could change other things about me to move the attention to something other than the color of my skin. I started dieting, which turned into an eating disorder. I kept changing my hair color, and that plus the lack of nourishment made my hair thin, and brittle. It got bad for a while, but little by little as I grew up, as I surrounded myself with real friends, and as I realized that there was nothing bad with my skin color, I began to get better. Now as a 38 year old I am happy with how I look and if someone tries to say something bad about the color of my skin i immediately shut them up. I had a coworker tell me recently that people use to make fun of her as well. I told her that next time someone says something just shut them up immediately. I said, "Tell them there is nothing wrong with your skintone. No matter the color, we all breath, we all eat, we all feel, we all bleed, we all live, and we all die. If they keep talking say to them, I'm dark skin and I'm proud and I have a nice tan year round.

As a young black woman myself, heejae’s anger is the embodiment of how us black women feel everytime we and other black people get discriminated against, hated, hurt, harassed, etc…i love my skin. One story from when i was kid (about 7yo), i had this little white boy come up to me, just grab my arm and start caressing the top of my arm while staring at it in curiosity. I yanked my arm from him in irritation and confusion, then looked at him like, “🤨”. And he asked me, “do you taste like chocolate?” And i asked him back, “do you taste like vanilla?!” And he said, “no 🤨”. And then i said, “well i guess i don’t taste like chocolate! 😠” and then walked away. I think back on that and wonder if that was a backhanded compliment or not.

@@queenleslie5917 oh let me tell you colorism is everywhere. I live in America but my dad is Jamaican and my mom is from Sierra Leone so I spend my summers overseas. I’ve seen a lot of things experiencing those cultures AND African American culture. You’ll see skin lighteners here in America occasionally but I see them way more in beauty shops when I was in Jamaica & Sierra Leone. It’s absolutely wild that I’ve seen more acceptance and praise of darker women here than my home countries! There’s nothing like being home amongst your people though :)

Heejaes made me cry of joy, her reaction was goal. I wish as I was growing up someone showing that level of discomfort for people bullying another person just for their skin color. I remember when I was young I hated my caramel skin because people would call me names and I would cry to myself wishing I was lighter. I remember the first time I had to deal with this was in the 2nd grade. I was playing with a little girl on the playground and her friends came up. Like a lot of comments here, I’m a black girl, too. When I see these models, I’m just so happy they can be appreciated for their beauty. I’m not light skinned, but I’m not dark skinned either. I’m somewhere in the middle. Darker skinned people get so much hate because they’re dark, and are even called ugly because of it. Colorism is real, especially in the black community. I guess Heejae is considered kind of dark for a Korean, but I really don’t understand how that matters to who she is as a person and how pretty she is. I love how they expressed themselves in this video and how they described these women. “Phenomenal” is such a powerful word to describe someone and their looks. And it’s really reassuring to know that not all Asian people in general have dated views and prejudices since that’s a fear among a lot of people I know that say they want to visit Korea, myself included. I am brown woman and I must say I absolutely love black people.their skin and their proportions are great and I have indian origins,I wish I had that kind of clear skin.Black people are one of the most beautiful on planet but so underrated.i think if they started miss world including black people more then every beauty contest would be won by them I think their nature is also very kind and they some of the most gentle and sweet people. I work in a hospital and my colleagues are black and they r great at their job as nurses♥️

as an asian i can say with all my confidence that the idea of "fair skin > dark skin" is common. the idea was born because of the thought dark skin = peasants as they are labor workers who bask their skin under the sun making their skin tanned whilst fair skin = rich/successful as they usually work indoors like offices and such so they dont get tanned. i was born with fair skin so i never experienced any negativity towards my skin tone, however i have experienced being compared to with people who have darker skin. my brother was born fair skinned as well but since he loved playing sport he tends to play outdoors and we live a tropical country resulting him to get his skin tanned. people around us would compare his skin tone to mine and they would criticize him simply for having darker skin, they even told him to stop playing because his skin was getting darker like as if its a bad thing. thankfully my brother never gave a crap and just said "you guys act like my skin getting darker is gonna kill me or something its just a skin chill out" lmao i will never forget that moment. my friends who have dark skin tone would even compare their skin to mine and even say "look im getting paler" ITS SO WEIRD. at that time i thought it was normal since i always experience it and see it on a daily basis and i was rlly young too, but now that i have grown older and is more educated and aware of social stuff it makes me feel so sad that this idea has been tattooed in their minds already. i try so hard to tell them that its ok for them to have dark skin tone and they look pretty with it and yet some of them are still trying to make their skin paler. asian countries really need to get rid of the stupid "fair skin > dark skin". it ruins people's confidence and forces them to be something else when theyre beautiful already with what they are.

As a black woman, I'm used to seeing and hearing people say bad things about black women that I actually get surprised when I do hear someone say something good about us. It's refreshing not to hear insults for simply existing or looking different especially dark skinned women the colorism they face is unmatched and they deserve better than what our own community is even giving them.

As a person with dusky skin, I was so self conscious of my skin color and my thin features and wavy-curly hair cus people used to refer me as 'that skinny curly hair and a little dark girl'. It took me years till I became an adult to accept the way I am. I stand 5'6 ft tall, with 34-28-37 proportion which according to them is 'thin' but I'm happy the way I am now. People should stop judging someone because of his/her skin color, hair, and size. We are the way we have been created. Can we normalise this!

As a white person who is also very interested in the intersection of history/biology/sociology, I always think about how dark skin is basically the original skin. As humans moved away from our origins in Africa, we encountered environments that were more hostile or less nutrient dense. Africa is such a rich, biodiverse place - such a vast continent with so many different flora and fauna as you move across it. Pretty sure the most diverse place on the planet. It makes me think that dark skin is so beautiful and healthy and shining because it IS the healthiest. Skin had to lighten elsewhere because of poorer diets and climates. Not placing value judgments on healthy vs unhealthy btw! I'm disabled myself. I mean this is a hopefully neutral and academic sort of way. But that was always my impression. I see dark skin and think health, if that makes sense?
