They really hate it if it rains a little they prefer to get inside if it's sunny they want to get out and they let you know when they wanna get out😂😂 we also got them in all week because it's too wet........ It's a shame but you can't change the weather
@Ben-fk9ey Жыл бұрын
I think there's a big distinction between cows living under a shed roof their entire lives and cows wintering in sheds or coming in when the weather is bad. Cows should be outside weather permitting.
@KevinJD2030 Жыл бұрын
@@Ben-fk9ey there definitely is a difference. I also think they should come outside when the weather and ground conditions are permitting it. I really like it when they're outside.

Thanks Tom for sharing this video….since I’m in no way a farm girl, I had no idea that it could be too wet outside for cows and they wouldn’t like to eat wet grass! I figured they live outside a good part of the year so they’d be used to rain ( less flies maybe too) and that wet grass would hydrate them at the same time. I’ve learned something today, and I thank you. Your cows look nice and comfy inside and it’s thanks to you listening to what the cows are showing you what they need and want. Good on you. ❤️👍

@tucobenedicto109 Жыл бұрын
I think that's great. It's wet the ground will get crazy hoof prints then you don't want a cow stuck. The rain will help the grass grow for more grazing. Using those values of hay is a great idea. The fact of the new shed is that you can house all of them. And it's comfy.

My cow's are roughly 50/50 when it comes to wet weather & using shelter. It's good to see cow's happy to be in out of the wet weather. I really wish we had that problem. We are so dry in my area on top of the inability to irrigate. Fall is starting here too. Morning sun is taking longer to come up 😢. Not ready for the cold. Keep up the good work everywhere, including the video's 😊. I bet Luke is happy with cleaner cow's too. 😅

Tom, little known switch on newer Manitou Teles is that they have an override switch (for very occasional use ahem 😜) which allows you to over ride the load indicator, very handy for getting out of sticky situations. It’s normally situated on left hand side of seat, next to DPF regen button (if it’s got a DPF). I currently have a MT1440 A (14m boom and 4 tonne capacity) and a MRT 3050 (Manitou Rotating Telehandler, 30m boom and 5 tonne capacity). Probably going to upset some but find the Manitou’s much better machines than the JCB Loadalls.

Hi Tom, the worst thing to do is double handle hay, but as you know things don't always go to plan. There is many countries complaining about the amount of rain they have had in July, so there is lots of unhappy farmers. It's funny how your dad hears you but still stacks the bales his way. Your cows are being very cheeky and they just love being inside with loads of feed. When are you going to show us the work going on in the background, the suspense is killy me? Another great video as always. Chris from Australia 🇦🇺.

Having grown up on a dairy farm, I can empathize with you over the rainfall, but here in Central Texas we are experiencing the worst drought while you are the other extreme. We haven't had a drop of rain since June10. And we've experienced 100 degree F. plus since the week after that with no relief in sight. I wouldn't change places with you but it would be nice if we both enjoyed some moderation.

I was glad of the rain in July until about the 25, won’t deny my grassland needs a dry spell to get the dry matter and sunshine to improve the sugars. You use what’s available and what makes sense at the time to feed your cows and work with what’s in front of you . Heavy Cheshire clay here but have the infrastructure to keep grazing pretty much February to December . Keep pushing on , lots to look forward too and your enthusiasm and energy is inspiring 👍

At least the downtime has given me chance to catch up with some blade sharpening which was needed. The weather plays a massive part in farming........it's always the extremes that cause the problems ......too dry or too wet.....there both as bad as each other i think and of course too hot or too cold. and cows are so sensitive aswell there milk production soon drops in any of those extremes. you just got to do the best you can. perhaps we will get a nice autumn and be able to keep cattle out til xmas. we got 25 acres of 1st cut hay still to make. but it looks like things might be improving next week.......just hope we get some nice weather that lasts more than just a couple of days
@JDseller1 Жыл бұрын
Once we put in free stalls the cows just would go out for a short time for exercise and then they would come back in. They would not eat much when out on pasture as they preferred the TMR ration. I preferred them eating the TMR ration as I then knew exactly what they were eating each day. They would drop in production when out on grass.

Hi Tom, in this country you can never have enough space under a roof. I’m sure you will see a great benefit when you get the roof over your silos, but another roof for storing bales, either hay or straw so you don’t have to keep moving them would be a good investment. Unfortunately in farming it’s hard to see the returns for any investment these days.
