Be sure to plan for future floods, it's going to happen more frequently. Perhaps replace small areas of concrete outside Dad's house with gravel strips for soakaways, plus large cut off drain at the top of the yard to catch field runoff.

Adrian so sorry to hear your news about the flash flood especially so soon after celebrating your fathers birthday. Better late than never, should this happen again use the tires in the field to build a coffer dam to divert the water into the field so as not to fill the silage tank and erode the driveway further. As for the pumphouse I would suggest you insulate the roof space too.

Adrian job well done, hope your Parents are ok now. You brought back memories for me when you took out the old pump, i'm nearly sure it is an old Waterpak. The pump unit was German made a Company Loewe. There was hundreds of them sold through out Ireland. Cavan and Monaghan would have been the largest users because the water source were nearly all shallow wells. Killashandra Co Op and Bailieborough would have been the largest suppliers.

Adrian, I am so sorry to hear about your flooding. I am at University of Florida today and was watching their channel when a report came on about “slick” dairy cattle that are more resistant to heat because they naturally have less hair on their top lines like you shave your cattle to assist with their heat management. These are dairy cattle. I saw that you used the sand bags from the silage area. Good thinking 😊. Can’t believe what happened to the road. Thank you for sharing. Georgia

Hi Aidrian sorry to hear of the flooding the shock of seeing it arrive into the house must be terrible. As you say fixable so not the worst . Two thoughts firstly where the water from field and laneway turned into the yard over silagepit I'd suggest a shallow "dip " ( gridded drain ? ) to catch and redirect water back out to field side of lane down to farmyard. Secondly the damage to entrance lane . If council did it before you might be eligible to do it again if it serves more than one household. I think it's called "Community Improvement Scheme " you have to contribute 10% of cost . Application form down here in Tipperary have to be in by Tues 5pm so enquire in morning and get your name in anyway you can always withdraw later .

Yes more drains will be needed, the top of that laneway also. Gonna get on to the council this week, might get away with just patching it up for now

Great vlog Adrian, sorry to hear of your parents misadventure and the road lifting. You never think it would happen to you. I live on a hill too and often joked that I won't be flooded anyway (Kildare would have to be submerged first) makes you think what a flash flood can do. On the pump house electrics, I'd use an RCD socket out there in the pump house for your own protection. All the best.

Fantastic job as usual Adrian👍 can I just recommend a dimplex cold watcher for the pump house there about a 100€ we often put them in attics. They come on when u set them to a temperature keeps pipe work and such from freezing saves a lot of hassle for the once or twice a year the turn on 👍

I have seen on a 'flood house,' a waterproof panel on the entrance door frame that restricts the water from getting into the house. The internal wall claddings are also often removed for a flooded house. How much wall cladding depends on the height of the flood. Use dehumidifiers etc to dry out the house before the winter.

If it was me, I'd put insulation on the floor, as if and when the heater turns on the floor, isn't cold, and making the heater work extra. Button it up with all the insulation that you can, door and roof when you get them done. So sorry about the flash flood and hope your parents are fine. Take care, be careful, take it easy and keep dry and cool.

looks like you need a V cut into the track, a new tarmac lane will cost a lot, we paid £72 per square meter, for a 40x2 meter long drive £2880 not including labour... we also had to have the base layer removed and gravel put back, so while they did that we had a proper land drain put in the center with electrics as well for the new street lamps we bought at the antique center, if you do re-do the drive you might as well go all the way and get a good drain put in aswell.
@IFarmWeFarm

Yes definitely adding and large drain across the top to help prevent that happening again, there used to be a nice camber on the surface where all water would run to the sides but heavy vehicles have reversed that over the years.

Before the flood, before the flood!" A good reminder for us all. Great attention to detail as always, the pump house looks great. You make it look easy! Hopefully one of your viewers will know of some infrastructure shekel assistance available to re-surface your driveway. I dare you to start 'Cavan Spring Water' (Uisce an Chabháin). You'll definitely get some shekels to start that. There is a young Micro-biology student in your area chomping at the opportunity to go into business with you. That's all the expertise you'd need. Hi Adrian, Sorry to see the flood damage, devastating for you and your family and your parents who work so hard to have your home right and to be damaged like such. Look it can be fixed. On your pump house do insluate the floor . I fully done mine also insulation the roof and door. Frost can get in at any point , the secert with frost guards is when Temperature drops and frost guard kicks in it will hold the Temperature high anyway to prevent frost damage to the pump. If poorly insluated and a say infrared heat lamp be used with Temperature on a cold night , The blub can blow out with on/ off temperatures reading of the sensor. With insulation go big or go home!!!!. An air vent too is needed, also the floor I put down insulation and cow cubicle mat to protect, even a bit of stock board sheeting would do. You have a great job done, but be pity to come up short if a very cold frosty night with Temperature s like seen in christmas of 2010 of - 18 degrees or cold weather spells not as bad as that time, but close enough to do damage

Well! If you are using 1". Pipe going out of the pump use 1"1/4 from the well, even if the fitting on the pump is 1" get a brass connection to suit. The difference between 1&11/4 on the foot valve is serious, and it makes life easier for the pump not to mind the flow. Wash the well walls it'll be right for a lifetime.

I’m so sorry your parents home flooded. Water was 4 feet deep in my basement once. I lost the furnace, all the ductwork, the water heater and a huge amount of family keepsakes. So I understand how upsetting it is for your parents. Thankfully, I had flood insurance that paid to replace the expensive things. Hopefully, your parents did too. If they did, the insurance might repair the lumps in your driveway. I like your little well house redo. I wouldn’t insulate the floor, but I would insulate the ceiling. It’s been 96 and 98 degrees here this last few days. Google says that’s 36.667 Celsius. The humidity was 91% here. I live in Nashville Tennessee, USA. I hope your weather cools off and dries up a bit. It looks like you’ve had enough rain for a month or two.❤️🤗🐝
