Ned, as always well done. While I share your excitement of an Anambra megalopolis or Megacity, my concern is will the Anambra government come up with a master plan that includes first class roads, drainages, sidewalks, water distribution, zoning for residential and commercial areas, schools, hospitals etc. Or is this going to be business as usual where we have haphazard construction with zero planning and the whole thing ends up becoming "an untold story of misadventure". Again props to you my bro.
@NedMedia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your amazing insights. Peter Obi did a master plan during his time... The quality of road construction should seriously improve with covered gutters, sidewalks and street lights. Soludo needs to award road contracts by region not single roads like others. All roads in greater Onitsha should be awarded the same time, also Awka and Nnewi. It will improve aesthetics and serenity, dust should also reduce to near zero. You can see from the footage that most cities are dusty. With enough commitment the Anambra Megacity will be achieved.

The problem is that southern Nigeria seems to have developed into an industrialised and service based economy with many built up conurbations and little land left for agriculture. Who will feed the industrial towns of south eastern Nigeria with its teeming population and insufficient land. Fortunately Igboland is surrounded by bread basket states such as Benue, Kogi, Edo, Delta, and cross river states. These states alone can feed the whole of Nigeria

Nice video. I'm not surprised at this video. With the smaller land mass of Igboland I expect that we see the five eastern states as mega city-state rather than just states. Our development should spore towards this direction. Whether we know it or not, Lagos is not a state.....rather it's a city-state or a mega city (what ever you choose to call it). That's why the current development in Lagos is going towards this direction....afterall during the colonial days, Lagos was a colony of its own away from the Northern and Southern protectorates. Igbo leaders need to wake up. What Lagos is too the yorubas is what Anambra is to the Igbos and even also what Kano is to the Hausas. So we should see Anambra as a mega city and not just a state or separately seeing Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka as mega cities. Anambra should lead the way.....so much expectations on Soludo's administration. Ebonyi is fast taking the after Anambra. If we can start achieving developmental independence and self reliance, then we have no marginalization to complain or ponder on. Reason why I so much love these two popular Igbo philosophy "Nke a Bụ Nke Anyị" and "Akụ Ruo Ụlọ". #IgboAmaka #IgboNation

Buying land only to resell should be ban across the continent. This is only increasing the cost of housing unnecessarily. Which also increases the cost of living in general. We can't copy everything we see in the west or outside Afrika. Not everything is good for us. This concept of land resale is only slowing down our growth. Very stupid that land prices can double without any real improvements/development or structures added only for someone to make a profit from buying it first 🤦🏿♂️🤬

Don’t forget the city of Asaba just across the bridge. As well as the village sprawl that’s increasing and connects Nnewi, Awka and Onitsha is also spreading even more to Owerri, So Through Orlu and Orkija a massive section of Anambra and parts of surrounding states will be connected. As the area densities hopefully it maintains some of its unique semi-rural character while incorporating city elements along its major routes, and more highways for increased connectivity.

The three of them inclusive of communities in between plus Asaba are already considered by urban demographia as a polycentric urban agglomeration based on close proximity of the constituent cities and communities in between them. I was hoping Anambra airport would be situated in between these three Anambra urban areas to help fuse them up properly and result in a relatively short travel time to the airport from each of these towns but somewhere different was chosen at the end of the day. All Anambra State government now needs to do is to expand the linkage roads. An interesting twist is if Anambra and Delta State unite to make the most of second Niger bridge by planning and building new urban districts on both sides of the ponds and also perhaps create a new CBD on the island in between Onitsha and Asaba with rail and road Connections from the centre of both. This would take years and heavy investments but the rewards will be worthwhile
