I think Saban is a douche but so is every big college football team coach. I'm sure Saban helped his players get away with r@ping 19 year old college girls, the same way all the coaches did. It is embarrassing for people like Saban to consistently lie about this. I went to a smaller school in North Carolina probably 15 years ago on a football and track & field scholarship. I was given an envelope with $1000 dollars in it when I went to visit the school and committed that weekend. We had a card that some of us were given that we could show at certain restaurants, clothing stores and other places that we could get our bills compensatied up to a certain amount, I was probably given another $2500 during my freshman year + my counselor adjusted my financial aid to get me a refund of $3500 in the form of a check. So my freshman year I was compensated over $15,000 in cash and miscellaneous items and this was a smaller program so I could only imagine what top tier schools were giving kids, stop lying Nick Saban...

The most open case of directly paying a player was almost a decade before saban got there. Saban has always used air quotes where they don’t make sense. So this was not a Freudian slip, just habit. Also, he handled this pretty well. He was just called a cheater on national television and handled it about as well as he could. It must be really irritating to have people imply he had an advantage over everyone else by doing the exact thing everyone else was doing. Naji Harris played against Rancho Cotati in Rohnert Park California and my nephew who had no affiliation to either school involved went to the game. I agree Saban paid players. What annoys me is teams like Ohio state and Notre Dame acting like they didn’t do the same thing. If your team at any point past 1960 was in talks for a national championship more than 2 times then congrats you paid players. Notre Dame didn’t lose badly to teams like Alabama due to playing by any financial rules. You lost because your team wasn’t coached as well as the other team and you play a soft schedule year after year.
