Hugh Grant's 'rude' Oscars interview goes viral
Hugh Grant gave an excruciatingly terse interview to model Ashley Graham on his way in to the Academy Awards on Sunday.
The British star appeared to have been annoyed after likening the Oscars to William Thackeray's 1847 novel Vanity Fair - a reference Graham took to mean the magazine Vanity Fair, and its post-Oscars party.
Grant later joked that his own face looked like a scrotum as he presented an award with Andie MacDowell.

Makes me feel somewhat proud to be British (for a change)...You gotta love the British self deprecating sense of humour & Ricky Gervais basically single handedly assassinated the whole audience I fondly remember. The Vanity Fair misunderstanding is just a wonderful, wonderful moment. One talking about the 19th century novel, the other talking about a magazine's after-party. Brilliant.
@madinp1177
@madinp1177 Жыл бұрын
Why would she think he meant anything else when the after-party was happening the same night right after the event that they were both attending? Of course that is where her mind went. Frankly Grant is a total hypocrite walking the red carpet of the Oscars and refusing to play ball with somebody just doing their job when he has done so little work the past year his only screen credit from 2022 is his Glass Onion cameo. He has no reason to actually be at this event but then looks down on other people he considers to be social climbers. Why is he even attending when he has no film to represent, no performance to promote and is apparently so above it all? Could he possibly be there because he enjoys the party and opulence of it all, I wonder?

@@madinp1177 yes it's very fair that she misunderstood, not a bad reflection on her at all. I think in general though in this exchange his British sense of humour and tendency to downplay and understate things came up against her very Hollywood USA hype-style, and that's what made it very funny. He didn't play along, and yes as you said that's maybe a bit unreasonable, and why was he even there... but I think it's not all that serious. The lady asking the questions was overdoing the hype, the pretend 'it is so wonderful isn't it?' lines and by doing this would come across as extremely irritating to Grant and many Brits, as he/they do not see the big deal about being honest and saying something was not good or no, I am not all 'awesome' and feeling 'amazing' just because I am at an awards show for people with their heads up their own backsides. Inane questions. How the hell could he have helped her out of her banality? He tried, but he fact that she missed his brilliant Vanity Fair answer (W.M.Thackeray - not the vacuous magazine) showed her level of engagement. If she'd seen that opportunity they might have had a proper conversation.

Why is everyone blaming Hugh Grant for a "bad interview" ? He was awesome. Fucking legend.

His 1st answer was rather witty and fun and she just didn't get it. Then the stupid "but you didn't make it" comment. Come on, that's just a bad interviewer. He started being witty and then she blew it. Maybe that style works with Americans but us britts .... nooooo

Hugh Grant realising how boring it is to be a woman in the arts and be asked so many inane vacuous questions. He makes a literary reference and she responds thinking he means the party. Slow clap.

He's not being rude. He actually looks more than mildly embarrassed by the interviewer's poor questions and seeming lack of knowledge.

Lol he's just not American. He's not going to fake enthusiasm about stuff he doesn't care about

Poor Hugh Grant. He should sue. I think his brain might have been severely damaged during that incident.

For me he just answered awkward questions like what are u wearing tonight? Well...he could answered Versace dress but then she would probably notice it's not the case.

What was it like being in that film where you were in it for 3 seconds and what are you wearing...? Those are some of the questions of all time 😂

@@nightwatch5513 "What does it feel like to be in Glass Onion? It was such an amazing film" when he only had a very brief cameo? Like the highlight of his career is being in someone else's movie for a few seconds? Or the one where he was supposed to choose favourites and alienate the people he didn't back?

He answered her very well. Given the idiotic questions, he was nice to her anyway. She should feel stupid. Stupid questions breed stupid answers.
