I don't think they were personal. He was asking about the band and the relationships INSIDE the band and if Thom had any plans of quitting or doing solo work. Those are perfectly apt questions to ask someone in a BAND. All he had to say was a gloss over like yeah, we've had problems but who hasn't? Next question. Plan to quit? Nope. That's it. But Thom got pissed and I think he could have been a little bit less pissed because each interviewer has the right to ask questions and so he can just say can we talk about some POSITIVE things instead of negative? lots of ways.

Yorke is damn right about this. Every artist has a right to ignore and refuse to answer questions during interviews. He's actually one of the few artists that doesnt want to sell his private life, even if it's about the band. It is very clear that he doesnt want people to mess with his life.

Easiest thing for Thom would've been lying and say that everything is all milk and cookies but the interviewer should have stopped and not take the role of a reporter.

Seriously, I applaud Thom Yorke so hard for all he's done, him and Radiohead. They are possibly the only artists who don't feel the need to dig up their shit so the public can feed on their emotions. That and they're artistic vision doesn't seem to be misrepresented by their albums. The music industry tends to change people and their music into something more sellable. God knows Kid A wasn't sellable when it was released, but it was their vision and that is totally beautiful.

Even if he is arrogant to some people, he's really intelligent and shouldn't have to explain himself to anyone. The interviewer pressed on, annoying Yorke and thus causing the anger and cursing. He's probably gotten so many questions before like this one. He's a little on the introverted side, but he's a musician. Don't hold it against him as a whole. He's a very smart person and can't show his discomfort in any other way than being flat out angry. If he were nice, the interviewer wouldn't have taken him seriously and most likely would've kept prying.

If you listen to Radiohead's music you understand that each individual in this band has very good reasons for doing what they do, saying what they say, acting how they act. As the front man, all this is amplified tenfold for Thom. Try to trust that the man who helped bring us some of the most powerful, meaningful, inspirational music in the last twenty years is coming from a reasonable place when he declines to answer a particular line of questioning.

I can really relate to what Thom is saying about his contribution to the band's writing process. I am pretty good at starting things or providing a launchpad, but I need my compatriots to help flesh it out and bring their own things to it. I actually think that's one of the great things about making music as a team rather than solo. It's beautiful to see what is created when minds work together.

Radiohead is a very unique group of individual, and if you are going to interview any of them it seems like it should be a top priority to at least know a little bit about the band so as not to piss them off and drive them into seclusion... again! Thom is a strange genius and he deserves the interviewers respect. This came accross as an interviewer trying to push Thom's buttons to make for better TV ratings. I think Thom is uncompromisingly genuine and noble for sticking up for his bandmates.

Eh, it's kind from both sides to me. On the one hand, Radiohead puts out music that people buy and listen to. What they do is effectively a very public thing, so it seems natural that the band itself can be talked about in a public way. On the other hand, I imagine being in a very long term band is a lot like being in a marriage. Imagine if the interviewer was asking him how many times he's thought about leaving his girlfriend or something.
