@JohnA891

@@amosmoses5630 From thousands of years of linguistic evolution, before America was a thing. Apparently Zed is from the French word for the letter z, 'Zede', and from the Latin and Greek letter Zeta. I guess if you really meant 'where did it come from', the answer would be Roman occupation, the Catholic Church, and England's favorite sport, fighting the French. Why did it change in the US? I have heard of two reasons (no idea if either are correct), first is a flip off to show you weren't using the proper King's English anymore after the revolution, and second, that the guy who wrote the 'Now I know my A B C's' song changed it to fit the rhyme.

This is a movie that really, _really_ warrants re-watching, especially while it's still fresh in your memory. On the second (or third or fourth…) watching you suddenly notice all the seeds being planted early that come to fruition later, and all the innocent scenes you didn't notice that are grimly mirrored later on. Plus there are lots of things here that receive call-backs in the latter two movies of the so-called "Cornetto Trilogy".

the real fun thing about this movie is how it shows how we are already living like zombies at times. When Shaun casualy walks his walk to the shop the second time, not reacting to the zombies around it's just because he is used to all the people doing their routine without thought that they might just as well be zombies. just like at the end when they make the zombies work mindless jobs or when his best friend can still game. it's a reference to how some people go about their day at work when they are unhappy there or how we might look when playing games.

Shaun's friend, with the golf club is Jessica Stevenson (now goes by her married name of Hynes). Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson co-wrote the British TV series "Spaced", which is chock-full of TV and film references, and also stars Nick Frost (his best friend in real life, and in this movie). A bike messenger named "Tyres" from Spaced can be seen as a zombie in front of the Winchester. Edgar Wright directed the Spaced TV show, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, a large part of Ant-Man, Baby Driver, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, amongst others.. Shaun's roommate is credited as the voice of Darth Maul in the Phantom Menace, but those of you with Amazon Prime may remember him as "The Tick" in the most recent version on Amazon. Also, a few British notes.. "Garden" in British is the equivalent of a backyard in the US. Also, near as I can tell, "Bollocks" is a British swear word.. and yes, "zed" is "z" in many British type countries (and Canada as well..) Crisps are basically potato chips, not sure what twiglets are, but in "Spaced", Simon Pegg's character has a line "I can't have twiglets...they make me violent"..
@fergalmoore862
@fergalmoore862 3 жыл бұрын
Twiglets are a kind of wheat based snack that looks like a bunch of twigs. They are very dry and are popular in bars sort of like how peanuts are. One of my favourite quotes from Shakespeare is from King Lear "Thou whoreson Zed! Thou unnecessary letter!" so "Zed" has been in the English language since 1605 or 1606 at least.

Lifelong Brit here. Quick clarification on the word "Bollocks", for those still confused about it. It's a general multiuse slang term for testicles, often used in certain specific conversational contexts, such as: "It's/what a load of bollocks" : That/this is bullshit "You dropped a bollock on that one" : Well, you fucked that up, didn't you? "You ain't got the bollocks!" : You're not brave enough for that! "He/She/They're chatting bollocks!" : They're clearly lying, and they're not even that good at it! Bollocks can also be used as a term of exasperation in a stressful moment, much like the term "Son of a Bitch!" Ain't language fun?

The letter Z comes from the Greek zeta (pronounced zetta) so zed is the pronunciation found in most English-speaking countries with the exception of the USA where it is zee. It is also zet in Dutch, Indonesian, Polish, Romanian, and Czech, Zett in German and zett in Norwegian. Here's an interesting video detailing how our alphabet is descended from Egyptian hieroglyphics: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZyqpoFujK56hMU

Apparently between the 1500 and 1700s, it was pronounced both "zee" and "zed" both in the UK and the colonies, depending on the dialect of English being spoken/written; however, after the American Revolution, "zee" became much more popular in the US, possibly in an attempt to create a separate, non-British identity.

@@kreuz7siebenmy apologies sometimes one just thinks he knows everything from being alive so long,😉👍💚 so I googled it; The British and others pronounce “z”, “zed”, owing to the origin of the letter “z”, the Greek letter “Zeta”. This gave rise to the Old French “zede”, which resulted in the English “zed” around the 15th century.Oct 31, 2015

Jessica Hynes who plays Yvonne starred in and co-wrote with Simon the TV show 'Spaced' which Edgar directed and it's a fantastic series. The idea for this film came out of one episode of that show. When she asks Shaun where's he living now at the beginning of the film, that's a little nod to the series. There are also a lot of fans of the series that got to be zombies outside The Winchester, and there's one character from the show that's out there, too. Chris Martin from Coldplay is also a zombie outside at the end when the military truck rolls up. One of my absolute favorite movies. So many great little tributes to George Romero's zombie films and just a super smart script by Simon and Edgar.

Devil's Lettuce? I call it the Leaves of Old Toby. Lol. Fun fact, the crappy roommate, the shower zombie, was the voice of Darth Maul in Episode I. The step dad was the squid face captain in Pirates of the Caribbean. The wood thing Shaun uses is a Cricket bat. It's a Brit baseball bat essentially. Lol. And the little mirror meeting of the other survivor group had Bilbo Baggins. And the girl Shaun talks to in that group was a loose reference to their characters in a show called Spaced, which is hilarious by the way. It was how Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost first met up and started working together. They all have such a natural chemistry with each other that comes across on screen. When Shaun is sad at the beginning and Ed cheers him up with tales of the other patrons, Simon Pegg actually broke character and laughed, but Edgar never said Cut, and kept that take for the film.
