A Perfect Circle's first single ever was a scathingly anti-religious song ("Judith"). The music industry is not _that_ concerned about the brittle folks of the religious right. It's not like they're a paying audience anyways, they only buy contemporary christian music. The reason "Sail" is the big single off Megalithic Symphony is because it came out at a particular time when dubstep had a minor popularity, and Sail had a slightly similar sort of sound so that's what the record company pushed. And then people assumed AWOLnation only sounded like "Sail". That's literally it.
