Those who want to undersrtand the song: The world has been depicted as a carnival with all sorts of exciting things around. The lover stands caged, yearning for the woman's 'rain of love' in the 'carnival of rust', crying his soul out, but the woman is pulled towards all the superficial glories around, symbolized in the video by games, toys, riches, and magic shows. Smitten by this superficiality, she wants to experience everything. Greed seems to take over as she is restless and wondering what all to try and what not. Her eyes glimmer with the luster of these temporary media of joy-she imagines being on the swing and the adrenaline rush that it'd bring, or soothing her taste buds with a candy. Basically, as is true in life as well, her possessions (coins) are limited and she is confused about where to use them and who really deserves them/her. Hypnotized by the fake beauty of the world, she doesn't realize that her real happiness lies in love, in that soul helplessly craving for her attention. While for the world, she is a just another nobody, like a customer at one of those stalls in a carnival. They call out to her, try to impress her, try to show to her that her happiness lies with them but once their purpose is solved (the money is in), she is a nobody for them again. And all the while, her lover is yearning for her attention, wanting to give her all the happiness she is struggling to find in things superficial and fake. In a way, she unknowingly objectifies him-comparing him with various material pleasures and then choosing the latter. And when she realizes that she is still not happy, not at peace, is still incomplete and none of the riches (symbolized by the doll she wins as a prize) can give her true happiness and peace, she looks back to search for her lover, but he is gone now. Forever. It's too late. #copied

which in general can sum up the youth of this generation. They are tempted by different things in the carnival called life, and are giving up friends, families or even boyfriend/girlfriend in chase for superficial matters like money, maybe a new exciting boyfriend/girlfriend cause they got used to the one they were with before. Then in the end they, as you said, discovered that they were not happy and regretted their choice, but knowing then that there are no superficial thing that can fix regret.

Carnival of rust symbolises the world. I think it is named so because everything in that carnival rusts after sometime meaning that nothing is permanent, everything is temporary. This applies to the world, people are running after materialistic things instead of pursuing relationships like this lady in the video. Those materialistic things give you happiness just for a short while. In the video you see that as it nears the end, everything in the carnival rusts because it does not bring happiness to the lady anymore or maybe simply because her coins are finished. The man is the last one to shut off. He, according to me, represents loving relationships we have/can have with people, and when the lady turns away from him in the greed of other things, he still waits for her but slowly his devotion fades away. Then the lady realises that those riches mean nothing when compared to a loving relationship with a person (it doesn't necessarily have to be a lover, it can be your mother, father, brother, sister etc.) but now it's too late. (ik it's really messy but I'm really tired rn but I also wanted to put my thoughts out here)
@jimi024686 жыл бұрын
Livanshi Bansal You could also interpret it in a deeper metaphysical way. The man could represent God who wants to have a relationship with the woman. Relationships with other people last long but ultimately they are not permanent either. Only God is permanent. For example in buddhism it is understood that only God/nirvana can bring ultimate happiness (that will never rust).
@livanshibansal37226 жыл бұрын
@@jimi02468 wow you interpreted it in such a beautiful way. It makes sense. The lady is engrossed in the materialistic things but she doesn't realize that she can find salvation only when she lets go of those things and finds inner peace. Wow great work, keep it up👍

Tarot card was used in Persona (anime) :D. i actually missed it for a long time it was just now i noticed, i think i seen this video at lest a few times over the years but came back to realize because The high Priestess was used a few times in movies, i guess it's a easy recognizable one for me as well as Hand of Fate 2 had a few cards like The Magician. it also kept changing through the video which kinda bugged me so i started looking up those cards to kinda confirm. I did see one other comment a little later on though so i wasn't the first but it's buried.

I was 16 when this masterpiece came out. It was a really dark phase for me to live through. Didn't knew at that time but I was soon to be diagnosed with clinical depression and OCD. 11 years later, I'm doing good in life and I listen to this. Man, the memories come back rushing. Can't believe I lived through all of that. It's frightening but sort of comforting too.
Old songs are something else.. This song is a piece of art.. Such a lovely voice And such a great lyrics and must say the director is so talented. Find this song today evening..it took 13 years to find such a masterpiece..

I used to listen to this song but never watched the video. I don't know what it's message is supposed to be but it reminds me of our current state of being materialistic in these times of struggle. Between the lyrics and the visuals it's almost prophetic.
@lifeonshine50552 ай бұрын
I took it like this: We people always just try to get something for ourself and when we talk to our savior (who or whatever it is) it is when WE WANT something and not when we could give something. And when others do the same we all just become sad. How do we feed the rain? By crying of course.... And it causes just rust (sorrow) all around us, but we still keep on wanting something new even when we already have something we could give to others. And there are too many people doing the same and they just take advantage of our needs just like we are trying to do the same. We don't see the true color and stop for those people who could really help and give us something, instead of taking something from us. We end up in a carusel in a carnival repeating the same mistake again and again (the beginning and the end of the video are sort of identical because the person keeps on repeating the same mistake).

This song is criminally underrated! At 3:33 I could have understood if the song transitioned into a growl / scream, and it would have added a lot of power to the end of the song. However, Marko chose to persist in the soft, mellow vocal range with minor inflections which kept magnifying to the yearning feeling that the song has been developing since the first second. Genius is an understatement!

The thing is everyone resonates with different kinds of music . For example I love this kind of music and metal . Because the lyrics move me and the music moves me. I absolutely despise EDM. But for someone else , EDM must be a really precious thing because it moves him .so we can't really say who deserves what because it's just a matter of what moves you .

Lyrics : D'you breathe the name of your saviour In your hour of need? And taste the blame if the flavor Should remind you of greed Of implication, insinuation, and ill-will 'Til you cannot lie still In all this turmoil, before red cape and foil Come closing in for a kill Come feed the rain 'Cause I'm thirsty for your love Dancing underneath the skies of lust Yeah, feed the rain 'Cause without your love, my life Ain't nothing but this carnival of rust, oh It's all a game, avoiding failure When true colors will bleed All in the name of misbehavior And the things we don't need I lust for after, no disaster can touch Touch us anymore And more than ever, I hope to never fall Where enough is not the same it was before Come feed the rain 'Cause I'm thirsty for your love Dancing underneath the skies of lust Yeah, feed the rain 'Cause without your love, my life Ain't nothing but this carnival of rust Yeah, feed the rain 'Cause I'm thirsty for your love Dancing underneath the skies of lust Yeah, feed the rain 'Cause without your love, my life Ain't nothing but this carnival of rust (carnival of rust) Don't walk away Don't walk away, oh, when the world is burning Don't walk away Don't walk away, oh, when the heart is yearning Don't walk away Don't walk away, oh, when the world is burning Don't walk away Don't walk away, oh, when the heart is yearning

This is one of the most beautiful masterpieces in the universe of artistic genius I have ever seen. This is perfectly written, perfectly played, perfectly timed, and the video that completes it is perfect. I'm in awe of this song. Bless you those who have blessed us.

I am 11 years old (this song is older than me) and this song made me realised that I should have been born 14 years before to listen this masterpiece in a concert

This song is a lot deeper than it appears. Duel meanings being the literary metaphors. At face value it's really beautiful, haunting and romantic. The next tier is very sinister.

Why are those meanings dueling?

all their lyrics are great! the way they use the words is missing in the current music scene. they are the best, real poets...
