Damn, the Wings were just such an insanely good team in this era. I have so much nostalgia for this roster and I actually missed seeing this game at the time so this was awesome to finally see. The end of this game was just crazy how many shots they got off before Draper finally gets it in there.

Wow, as a Red Wings fan looking back, this was 1 of the luckiest wins of all time. Osgood kept things from going totally insane with all the terrible Detroit penalties, and then they got 2 weak goals on the blocker side of Kolzig, plus Tiki missing that wide open net after the play he made? Detroit clearly was still gonna win the series but, man. Shoulda prolly been a 5-6 gamer, if this didn't go their way.

Poor essa tikkannen.. missed a wide open net from 4 feet that would have put caps up 2 with 9 minutes left.. they end up losing 5-4 in overtime..and get swept. Every game was close but this was definitely the tipping point. Year before every game was close but one and wings sweep. 02 every game was close and wings win in 5.. redwings were the best at winning close games in the finals.

They called Lapointe "Mar-tan" because his name is French Canadian, which they're accustomed to. Niklas is a Swedish name that they're less familiar with, the more American or Canadian version being "Nicholas", so they mispronounce it. Granted he'd been on the team a while so it's not really an excuse, just a possible explanation.
