Hi Pat, welcome back, we missed you. Tom Jones had so much Power & Soul, Great Singer, Quite the ladies man. Funny you saying he sounded a little like Elvis, they were very close friends. Tom Jones had a very popular TV Variety Show in the late 60's. Preformed in Vegas at the same time as Elvis and continued on in Vegas for decades. He is Welsh by birth. 2 Tribute Songs by Tom Jones for Elvis & With Elvis. Tom Jones came from a mining community in Wales and became an international star in the 60s, being the British “Elvis” in terms of hip swinging sex appeal and powerful singing. They were also friends. Watch the live video of Treat Her Right to see his appeal to the ladies, or Delilah for another power ballad.

Great reaction to this amazing Welsh singer. Tom is a coal miner’s son who had many hits in the mid 60s an 70s. He also had his own TV show from 1969 to 71 and had all the greats on it. He had duets with Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Sammy Davis Jr., Wilson Pickett, Ella Fitzgerald, Little Richard, Cher, Jerry Lee Lewis, and many more. He sings many genres including, PoP, R &B, Soul, Country, ballads or up tempo

To add to my previous comment below, Tom Ana’s also had hits in the 80, 90s and 2000s . He has won a Grammy and a British version of a Grammy and had a recent number 1 album in the UK. He is been on theUK version of The Voice for several years and often sings duets on it. To cap it all off, he was knighted by the Queen for his contribution to music and is now SIR Tom Jones.

What is really interesting to me is that the son of the man who wrote that song for Tom Jones showed up on the Voice one day. They got talking and Sir Tom Jones actually sang that song with him or with him playing it. I am not sure but you could check into it if you are interested. ;-) Have a great day.
@jamespasifull Жыл бұрын
The song was written, & recorded by Lonnie Donegan in 1962. Tom Jones wasn't even called Tom Jones until 1963!! Tom Jones didn't record his first solo disc until 1964. Lonnie Donegan offered him this song to record, in 1967, once he had become a successful singer. But, he most assuredly did NOT write it FOR Tom Jones, however much success he had with it, or how it became known as a 'Tom Jones' song! It was written BEFORE Tom Jones was even called Tom Jones FFS!!
@xScooterAZx Жыл бұрын
@@jamespasifull My,..you seem upset. Why? Typing to someone in caps seems rather rough,..for nothing. Donegan's son showed up on the tv show "The Voice" and they sang his Father's song together.

@@xScooterAZx I'm curious as to why I'm the baddie in all this? All I did was inform the original commenter of the actual truth about that particular song, who wrote it, & who recorded it, 5 years before Tom Jones sang it. Being criticised for being correct is an entirely 21stC bullshit concept, & I for one don't play those stupid games. I'm sad for you, if you are one who does! Btw, it's not now, or has ever been, 'his father's song'! Yes, he sang it, & yes, people know he sang it, but it ain't 'his'!
@xScooterAZx Жыл бұрын
@@jamespasifull Where did you get that I said you were a baddie of some kind? I just said your comment seemed like you were upset. Why did you decide to take my comment as you did?
@jamespasifull Жыл бұрын
@@xScooterAZx My original comment was clear, concise, to the point, & more importantly, correct in every respect. It did not request, or require a reply, so I was surprised when I got one, questioning my use of capital letters! I generally use them to stress a point, because this is a typed post, so I can't stress a point verbally. I honestly believed that was obvious, but now I realise I should qualify every typed utterance, in case it's taken the wrong way! 😁

Man how i hated this guy when i was a teenage boy. I was so jealous of how every girl i knew was plumb in love with him! I really didn't hate him as much as wished i could do that. He was tearing all the girls hearts out and here i was a little awkward boy who couldn't figure out what he had that i didn't. Then it hit me. He was good looking, talented as they come and had the confidence along with what may very well be the greatest singing voice ever. The thing that amazes me is he can still sing almost as well in his eighties. Elvis met him after one of Tom Jones' performances and told him he was the 'Greatest'. Coming from the Kin, that was telling! Kinda like Magic Johnson telling Larry Bird he was the greatest basketball player ever. Thanks for doing these great oldies. The sixties were the greatest when it came to great and unique music. The more a person hears it, the more they want to hear more and there is plenty out there. Keep playing these brother!
