I hold CCNA and AWS ML Engineer associate level certification. I am hired as a network engineer and truthfully, everything is hybrid these days, hence the I started learning the cloud since I am doing cloud at work too. Truthfully, I learn a lot from CCNA. Immensely. I have a solid foundation because of CCNA. I paid for all my certs so far and if money is not an issue, cisco all the way. If it is, AWS it is haha. Maybe I should start KZbin and share my thoughts too. Cisco certs are way overpriced. I feel I can pass CCNP but only if my employer is willing to pay for it, which is what i am in a midst of doing. Best of luck everyone.

How long did you have you CCNA before landing a job? Im about to take the exam for my CCNA hopefully next month!

@sunnygold7513 all the best! CCNA proby will be my fave cert for a while. Its tough since i was a non-technical person when i took it. Bittersweet moment when i pass it. I didnt apply for job right after i got my ccna. But after i started applying, took me like 1-2 months to get offers. I settled on an offer on my 5th month of job search. So yyea. Try to resist poor offers okay. Know your worth. Different people, different path. Yours is unique to yours. Own it.

@mrmar-que6307 i am fortunate enough to learn nlp and several ML tools in uni. But, i actually use some udemy courses, and my workplace have a learning platform where they teach anything IT, including the cloud. Also note that i paid for neal davis course. I like it thus far.

@sunnygold7513 oh yyea, maybe you should note that ccna wasnt the only cert i have when i applied for jobs. I think i have did some THM certs, projects, sec+ and even CEH. Very entry level. But yyea, that was it. Now, i have several more. But its okay. Projects are more important imo. Plus, do note that i dont have an IT degree haha. You can do it!

I'm from Gibraltar (UK overseas territory) I got my CCNA last year, learned a lot and gave me a solid foundation in networking and even learned a bit about REST APIs and cybersecurity. Really enjoyed learning the topics.

i toke both, and tbh CCNA is a lot more technical than AWS, i passed AWS SAA with no cloud experiance in 2 weeks. CCNA toke me 3 month. I'm studying CCNP rn and it just feels more soild then aws certs, I setup my own lab (GNS3 on lxc), read lots of rfc, and build different network topolgies. It's a lot more fun than memorying a bunch of aws services no one ever uses. Plus aws certs most likely can't get you a job, but CCNA can totally get you an entry level networking job.

U nailed it. Great comparison. More AWS topics videos please. Thanks👍

I feel they work best with each other than against. Having the Security+, CCNA, and AWS SAA are golden for beginners getting a job...if I had to pick between the two I would say Cisco is better for beginners getting an IT job in the industry and AWS is better for intermediates that already have experience. If you have the CCNA there is a very good chance you will get hired as IT Support, Help Desk, Jr Network Admin, or Network Analyst if you have no experience...If you have the AWS SAA there a very small chance of you getting the a job as a solutions architect, cloud admin, etc without a bit of experience in IT

Many Reddit users claim that the AWS Networking Specialty exam is significantly different from traditional certification exams like Cisco's, with a stronger emphasis on scenario-based questions and less on configuration tasks which they say is Hard but Idk. They argue that this format, especially for those without a strong networking foundation, can be challenging due to its ambiguity and lack of hands-on validation. I was planning to take Advance Network or Security Next year after I Pass the Assoc level. But yes, still depends on the location/country I guess? most of the job posting I checked for cloud jobs here in Philippine it's like 65 ish % Microsoft and 35%.AWS. even in freelancing platform most of them are looking for Azure experience.

My preference would be cisco because they focus more on teaching the fundamental knowledge and protocols that is very transferrable in the IT field. Whereas AWS is more focused on their cloud techologies and products. The issue with that is cloud products change so quickly that what you learnt for the certification exam may become outdated after 2-3yrs. It is true that the price of Cisco U subscription is expensive compared to AWS, but if your employer is a high value customer of Cisco, they will get training credits from Cisco that can help you offset these costs.

No bias here! There are many developers who transition to AWS/Cloud Developer, they have like 10x AWS certs and dont really know networking. Also if you attend AWS community events. You will see few people with Cisco ans RedHat backgrand.

Most vendor cert exams cost $300 or more. CCNP has 2 exams. The COR exams is also considered CCIE Written. I dont see it as rip off. If you want rip off exams. Go for GIAC certs. Dont forget to shout out your location.

It’s sad that they put those certifications out there knowing it won’t land anyone a job, and it’s only an accolade the managers may never even look at. It’s pretty much a glorified badge for yourself to like 😂
