Nice Axes👍 I Picked up a sweet Old Arvika’ Puget sound’ Head few months back- very light surface rusting but appeared Un-used. Cleaned up nice- gonna make a handle for it someday🇺🇸-watching the 1st minute on that Dirty old thick Tree Bark--makes ya realize why a Double Bit Feller axe came in handy back in the Day-- use the thicker Angled slash Bit side to clear off the Bark-- Then attack it with the Thin Sharp Cutter End!!!!!!!

3.09.. you missed a spot on the toe 😋 Well, after a chip came loose from my latest project, Im going all in and I have now located a dealer that has an Arvika in stock. Hard to find even here in the home country. 😑 It will get a 15° flat grind with a 20° micro bevel. Looking forwards to try that outfit. By the way, 5 stitches on my left hand finger just from lightly touching it with my small HB hatchet, also 15°. That's probably the reason they come in the 30°s... An Arvika that sharp is seriously dangerous. Bring a tourniquet (sp?) on your forest tests along with a first aid kit. I'm starting to realize that a sharp axe is probably more lethal than a chainsaw, or about the same...

Great video, ordered me one of those there Helko Werk Tasmanian Axes today, but the "Ogre handle" is coming off right away and being replaced by a sweet 700mm (about 28 inch) Smedbergs one coz I'm 5 foot 6 and the stock handle is taller then I am!! Then I'll set to filing it to a more spicy cutting geometry. Just wanted to say without your channel I'd never even though about taking on this kind of project. Thanks for the inspiration mate.

I just got into axes, wedges, hickory, boiled linseed oil....about 2 years ago. I'm 5'9" about 185lb.s, when in shape...about 200lb.s (mostly neck and shoulders, haha). Yeah, 200#: after 9 months of humping 2x6's up circular staircases and throwing a few thousand trash cans. What's the point? Oh, I played tennis when young. So, the size of your body and the shape that you are in defines a lot about what's going to happen when you put a axe in your hands. Wake up, people! Swinging an axe is a good work out. You're gonna feel it the next day. It's physical. The massive Basque or Tasmanian axes are for football linemen or power lifters. Sure, they look cool (on the wall or in purchase). Cool to have in any collection. I want one....they evoke salt, sweat and blisters. When I wake up from that daydream, and 15 years older, I grab a much lighter axe and pase myself. Good workout. Grab a rasp and chow off the handle so the grip is right (we all have different sizes and lengths of hands, palms, fingers. Tennis racket handles come in ~12 different grip sizes. They are octagon and have a pronounced palm swell. Arm lengths, height and shoulder widths vary between out species. A "Boy's Axe" is called that FOR A REASON! I'm getting older and like the feel of a boy's axe...especially next to the nightstand (a lot safer than a loaded .45...). Yeah, them Paul Bunyan Basque, 5+ lb.s Tazzies, or massive Michigan are great when yir looking for a workout. Then (when) you get tired, switch back to the 3 pound Jersey and swing like lightning! Select (or 'tune") a handle length, grip diameter and thickness to your body. And a nice fat palm swell...like a knob on a door. So when yir tired, or not, you can almost relax at the end of your stroke...and have the palm swell as insurance from launch yir axe into the next county. Yeah, them palm swells make swinging an axe feel good! Digging yir videos and the music.

Australian Axes need to be ground before they can be used. The USER is expected to grind the axe to the angle and geometry of their preference. The handle is also meant to be carved down and shaped to the users preference by the user. That axe is not a finished tool out of the box, you need to put some work in before it's a tool.

Have to agree with you as a Tasmanian who collects and restores axes I have a few of these Swedish axes and I think the true Tassie pattern is the HB prior to the Arvika or around 1951/52. Correct me if I'm wrong

Comment from Sweden: Correct pronounciation of "Gränsfors". Also "bruk" - not "bruks" as many say. Or "brooks"... Try to say bruuuk - then it will be about correct. I really like your attitude: To learn as you go along - learning by doing. Thanks for your comments.
