Kirk is really great at rhythms too. He has to be matching and keeping up with James. If you watch sometimes during the verses James will lighten up on guitar side and strip it down and let Kirk play the riff the “real” way. Like the verse riff in Master he’s just hammering on root notes while he’s singing instead of sliding power chords and down picking the shit out of the riff. it’s too hard to play that shit and sing, I don’t blame em.

That sounds pretty decent man! Lots of people try to emulate an album sound which anyone who is educated knows that is not the live sound. And everyone knows when they hear James live, theres something missing from your tone. Well besides being James, his dirty sound really is driven by a Diezel and Dual Rectifier. Like Zamish said, when you hear them separate they sound different but when you combine the amps you hear his tone. Ahh thats the sound!

Kirk uses the DR and Randall. James uses the Diezel amp sim mixed with the IIC++ amp sim on the fractal for live shows. The IIC++ is a mark series amp. Apparently it’s not based on Metallica’s IIC++ crunchberries amp, but rather its the earlier version of the IIC+ from fractal. When fractal updated the IIC+ sim, Metallica asked Cliff to bring back the original sim as they were using it for all their live patches. So they brought it back and began calling it the Metallica amp, the “IIC++.” It’s the amp I keep coming back to when making my own patches. I can’t bring myself to sell my IIXL+, as it’s loaded with nothing BUT Metallica patches as I’m an Uber fanboy lol. I’m afraid I won’t get them to translate to the III as amazing as they sound on my IIXL+. So to test the waters I grabbed a used FM3. I haven’t been able to get my presets to transfer as great as I’d like yet. So I’ll keep it for now.

Cleetus McDonald thats an axe fx II. It’s basically a mini computer that you plug your guitar into and run it through a power amp or a recording setup with monitor speakers. It simulates a bunch of difference amps and pedals. It’s sort of pro-level gear (as in, these are what Metallica are playing through live nowadays). I’m looking at buying one myself, but if you’re still getting used to turning knobs and trying out pedals, I’d recommend holding off on something like this until you actually need it or have a better use case for it. There’s plenty of inexpensive alternatives with varying levels of popularity, but I do believe starting with an analog amp is best. But people are welcome to have differing opinions.

Hey man! Great work. This is definitely one of those hidden gems for gear nerds. I noticed the link for the cab seems to be broken. You wouldn’t happen to have another download somewhere of it? Or is that exclusively for the axe program. I’m running my evh into a torpedo loadbox into my daw. I’m SUPER close to the clean tone, but the ir cabinet I usually run doesn’t have that body and tonality like the one you’re using does. Just wondering if you could recommend a cabinet that’s similar. If not, no worries man. Keep up the great quality. Definitely subscribed.

For all the dumb ass people like myself make sure to have both amps bypass mode set to mute so the dry signal doesnt creep through! And of the IR? fuck knows so many I got lost but luckily I play through my own cab. As for the creator (Jakob1997) hats of to you I love it thanks for your effort and clean playing!

For playing in the room the Axe-Fx 2, Axe Fx 3 or AX8 is perfect. Ive never played any of the amps i use in the axe in real life so i cant really compare it,but i know that fractal products sound pretty damn good. Been using the Axe 2 for 3 years now and ive never looked back. So if you buy the Rectifier and a cab, andou want a chorus/drive/flanger effect or something else to add to your sound, you need to spend more money on that, and you will have to unplug cables, power adapters and mess with all that to change it up. With the Axe you have all you need and more in one 2U rack unit
