I am rather impressed with the tones captured using the Fractal gear. A lot of the time as guitar players we are very much fooled by an ‘on stage amp sound’ compared to a ‘close mic’d amp to FOH sound’. We all use our eyes when it comes to gear which is crazy. I imagine once the entire band is playing the differences or undesirable aspects would soon disappear. If Pink Floyd were a modern band, it would be interesting to see if Mr Gilmour would use the Fractal gear. He does like to experiment with technology after all. Thanks for sharing 👍

I dont get it. Does this take the place of an amp? What do you play it through?
@natedogg17777 жыл бұрын
Yes sir, that's exactly right. The Axe-FX series and AX8 take the place of a normal amp. You can run it direct to your recording software, direct to the house PA, direct to a powered monitor for home use, etc. Or, some folks use these as preamps and run it through a tube head and then mic up the cab from there. The FX8 is a different concept altogether...it's a multi-FX unit that would go in front of a live amp, providing you with basically every effect you could possibly need along with the ability to control your amp's channel switching and so on. Awesome stuff!

Gotta love the Axe-fx. People will always have a bias against digital, but to get so many incredible tones out of one piece of equipment... I just don't get the hate. The best thing I ever did was switch to Axe-Fx.
@SB-nt9fp6 жыл бұрын
Zane you are absolutely right. No amount of criticism will ever beat the vast array of tones this unit can create for $1750.00. Are they pitch perfect, not always, but with time, you can tweak them and the software keeps getting better every year. Also, 99.999% of any audience will think it sounds freaking awesome and wont be able to tell the difference! Good luck to all those haters trying to get dead-on "perfect" tones. Try and duplicate everything this unit can do. You'll need $10,000,000 to spend on gear and 10 tractor trailers and a crew of roadies to follow you around. And we all know your average musician is wealthy. LOL LOL Haters are gonna hate.

Or you could just buy the actual amp if you are after the Pink Floyd THE PF sound. Who needs 200+ amps when really just one will do?
@scottturek46557 жыл бұрын
But think about the effects needed to recreate some of these sounds, and how they can alter from song to song. To have that all available in a rack unit that can be piped out to FOH is awesome. Nothing beats the original gear, but for sheer convenience, can't beat the Axe FX

This is definitely better than the POD 2.0. Maybe not 100 times better but still better. I think Fractal is onto something. Great practice tool!
@AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE6 жыл бұрын
lol, do you know how many world class bands and players are using this on stage and in the studio? Very far from a "practice tool".

Do you know how many World class bands and players used the BOSS Metal Zone, or the The XT-2 Xtortion in the studio and live?
@AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE6 жыл бұрын
The difference is that those are just distortion pedals, the axe fx is a whole modelling/processing unit, with amps, cabinets, effects, and more... (EQ, stereo imaging etc...) It is a hugely revolutionary piece of equipment if you ask me.... if it were invented in the 80s or early 90s it would be worth hundreds of thousands of £/$. I used to own a POD X3 Pro, and really enjoyed using it, but the Axe FX II is literally 10x more advanced, realistic, and comprehensive than it.
@AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE6 жыл бұрын
For instance, imagine how much money in rack effects, amplifiers etc... it would cost (and weight, and the space it would take up) to achieve this "The Wall" GIlmour tone - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4DUZamuqbN3mNk
@HankCScorpio6 жыл бұрын
Alexander Joshua Davis I agree. It's a great time to be a guitar player. Maybe, in the right hands, the axe fx can do everything.

All effects are not realistic to me, very artificial, not headroom and true plastic sound!In my opinion with a couple of under 50$ boss pedal and a good amplifier and guitar, you could get far better glimourish tone.
