What I love about these Fractal tutorials of yours is that despite the fact that I do not own an Axe FX, I always find thought provoking techniques in there that serve as a springboard to things I might do with my Line 6 gear. So once again, thanks.

You hit the nail on the head as far as how necessary the tone match even ended up being. I love that the feature exists (more options is always better) but I usually find that the amp models are so close that you can close that last bit of the gap just by tweaking the amp block a bit. I feel like you end up with a more "natural" sound that way anyways.

Nicely done! I did a similar thing recently but splitting the DI signal to both the real amp and model, and then using the multiplex mapped to a footswitch to A/B. Global controls mapped to balance master volume and overall level, and Tone Match block for a 2nd pair of ears. Works pretty well!

Yes! Leon you’re a legend. I now know how I’m spending my Friday. I have a Diezel D-Moll that needs to be matched. Will be using my Two Notes Captor X. I see there’s an impedance curve for this load box.
@LeonTodd10 ай бұрын
Yeah having the two notes and ox mashed things a lot easier as they're so common
@Team51210 ай бұрын
The Herbert is probably the closest to the D-Moll…we’ll see how close.

very cool stuff, glad to see how close the Fractal unit is ,that tone match block is killer for that, i might get a VH4 on loan in the next weeks, see how that shapes up with the FM3 and other settings, but it'll be the same no doubt very good points on speaker/cab block and how close you want to get it and also is that even relevant, if the tone is exactly what you want are you going to demo Bren's pedalboard as well? you gotta weigh it on some scales just for the video😄

I’m looking into getting a modeler, heavily leaning towards fractal fm9.. although I have a question regarding the tone match feature, I know I wouldn’t be able to tone match with the fm9 but, can I use tone match presets from other creators? Any help from anyone is appreciated!

Very timely and helpful. I am in the process of trying to see how close I can get with matching my Wizards amps in the Axe Fx III. Not sure how much you liked these amps when you did the demos with Zen Amplification. I have gotten pretty close with trying to match my MCI and the next step was to venture into trying out Tone Matching. My understanding from just a casual level of research is TM is just a corrective, static EQ only that adjust frequency levels but it won't adjust thinks like punch, compression, tightness, gain, distortion character, etc. Is that correct? I have a decently long thread going on the forums and I have made all of the relevant edits to push the Friedman BE V1 model to where I am trying to get chasing the massive punch, big 3D but tight bottome end, raw, dry, uncompressed, and ripping attack. I'm quite close at this point and TM should help with fine tuning the EQ. But I was expecting I would need to turn to the expander/reverse compression options outside of the amp block for the final steps (i.e. Multiband Compressor and Dynamic Distortion block) while also revisiting some other baseline amp models as I have not left any stone unturned on deep tweaking the advanced amp block parameters. Does that seem right to you? It might take me a few weeks until I have enough time to focus on the final steps for the MCI match and also trying to tackle matching the low mid and mids of my MTL. I will post the final presets, a write up on the deep dive edits, and video comparison once it's all said and done.

It appears the only difference is just minute details in sound from your particular Diezel VH4 and the Fractal emulation created using their Diezel VH4. Fractal is amazing. I would love to hear and see this type of comparison for the Hiwatt. The Hiwatt Fractal emulation gives me the heebie jeebies, especially using the Alex Lifeson reverb from the Fractal Gift of Tone series.

With the axe sounding so close to the real amp these days, what advice would you give to a guy doing 60 to 80 shows a year that had four back surgeries, but could finally afford any rig he wanted? Feel is important.

Get an FM9 and either a high quality FRFR or a decent pet amp and compact cab. Done. I've done over 100 shows so far this year running the FM straight to FOH and it's amazing.

The amp models are the same but the FM9 doesn't have the tone match block. You could use something like Fabfilter Pro-Q3 in your DAW to match the frequency response though.

@@janrichescabungcal8448 they've never mentioned bringing the tone match block to the floor processors. I think this is a pretty good example that it's not really that necessary given how accurate the amps are
