Actually, EMGs are designed with way less magnetic pull, and they recommend to fret the last fret and raise the pickup as much as possible.

I've just seen your Fishman video. Great job! :) Which one Fishman or EMG 57 would you chose for metal? And why? :)

Are those EMGs the Brushed Gold Covered ones or the common gold ones? I really want to buy a set of 57/66 but i dont know which type of cover looks better for my guitar I have an Esp Ltd ec-256 btw

Where can I get some "helping hands" like yours? the job seems waaay easier having those thingies, at least what is the name of the device so I can get one

Hey, sorry for the late reply (I removed the rude useless one as well) Helping hands can be found at most hardware stores. Mine originally had the giant magnifying glass mounted to the top, as they typically do but I never used it so I just pulled it off.

Thanks for this video; it helped clear up a persistent grounding problem I was having, because there was no mention in the EMG installation video of the arrow-directionality of the connections to the bus. Followed this and it sounds great - thanks again!

some vids they just remove the old pickups and plug in the new ones and they r done. then vids like this there is a bunch of wiring. is there a way to know how i would do mine .
@MobiusGuitars
@MobiusGuitars 7 жыл бұрын
This one had a lot more wiring because I was going from a passive to active system. If you're swapping active for active, you will have very little wiring. If you're swapping passive for passive, you will have a good amount of wiring, but less than in this video. Just depends on what gear you've got!

Great hack video, I've got for my old strat a set of EMG passive humbukers and I've been struggling with the installation of the 3 way selector, that "lacing the switch" seemed pretty useful may I ask where did you find the diagram for that part of the installation? thanks

Yeah.. I don't trust myself and I'm stupid so I'll take it to my local luthier. I have a Japanese Jackson Dinky 97' and an Ibanez RG3EXFM1 that need pick up changes.

An easier way to pop knobs is to use a cloth or your T-shirt. Just push it up under the knob all the way around the bottom of the knob and gently work it off.

Ha, I just recently did the exact opposite. I bought a guitar with these pickups already installed. Perhaps for a seven string these are good but for the six string I bought they sounded brittle with no warmth. It was my first experience with actives and I was excited because I read reviews and watched videos that claimed these were a lot warmer than the 80's but they're still to brittle sounding for my tastes. They had to go.

Hello. I bought 57/66 set on ebay, they are for direct installation. But some people said, that emg send only rings installation pickups. Is it used set, or emg make sets for direct installation?

HELP HELP HELP I put a JB on my HSS strat. I soldered everything exactly like they were with the stock Fender Humbucker. Now I saw a pic on the internet saying that the wire colors are different on different companies.... how can I be sure that it is correctly soldered. I don't want the signal to be reversed or anything!!!
@Hzuuuu

You should read the installation diagram for the pickup. I assume JB is a Seymour Duncan. Their website have the diagrams you need.

Don't make the mistake I did, place something over the guitar body for protection as molten solder can drop and cause pits in your finish.

Really, really helpful to guys like me :). Just ordered a KM-7 and I may or may not consider putting the same set you just did in my axe as well! Thanks a lot! Saved me going to a luthier, although I'm gonna give it a first try on my previous guitar. Any idea how to take the screwed-on knobs, when the screws are pretty much grinded? Can't really do that with a screw unfortunately, maybe any trick?
@MobiusGuitars
@MobiusGuitars 10 жыл бұрын
by grinded, do you mean the head of the set screw is stripped? If that's the case & you're kissing the knobs goodbye anyway (I would), I'd get a dremel cut-off wheel & cut a flat slot into the top of the allen set screw (and, as a result, the side of the knob). Then get a small flat head screw driver & back that thing out using the new slot! These pickups are pretty rad, though. I'm guessing your KM-7 will have the Nazgul/Sentient set. I had these for a little bit and while the Sentient was fantastic, I didn't dig the Nazgul at all. Much prefer the 57/66!
@chimeiwangliang
@chimeiwangliang 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've heard the people comparing Nazgul to BKP's Aftermaths :) We'll see how it works the next week, when I recieve the beauty! Back on the Sevenstring forum, I'm gonna post some comparison between the new and pas schecters necks, bodies and sounds probably, in case you were interested. But I don't promise doing that too soon :D
@MobiusGuitars
@MobiusGuitars 10 жыл бұрын
Mikołaj Witkowski Hmm, I actually wouldn't compare the Aftermath to the Nazgul at all. The Aftermath is much more precise & articulate, while I feel that the Nazgul is somewhat muddy & scooped. I've owned both in the past and currently own neither. Both companies make much better pickups, IMO.
@chimeiwangliang
@chimeiwangliang 10 жыл бұрын
Axe Hacks My Nazgul machine (KM-7) arrives today, so I'll surely tell you what I think of them. But muddy... What wood have you used them with? And are you sure they were set in the sweet spot? And the string action? It all may affect the sound! Well, you probably know about that :D.
@MetalHeadProductions
@MetalHeadProductions 9 жыл бұрын
Mikołaj Witkowski I have both the Nazgul and the EMG 57/66 set, and the 57/66 pickups are the best I've ever used in my life. They are basically passive actives. You get all the headroom and punch of actives, but all the clarity and tone of passives. My Nazgul is great too, one of the best passives for metal ever made, but if I had to choose, the 57/66 pickups have more to offer.

How can you put the helping hands straight on finish of a multi-thousand dollar guitar is beyond me... Use some kind of a cloth dude, especially when soldering as tin has a tendency to sometimes fly off in chunks
@MobiusGuitars
@MobiusGuitars 8 жыл бұрын
The base of the helping hands is padded with foam. The matte finish Mayones uses is incredibly robust, stray solder isn't really something to worry about unless it's a thin oil finish.
