Thanks a bunch. I use my bridge emg 81 for just about everything and I roll tie tone back to play neck pup sounding leads. Lately though I have wanted a neck pup and love the organic sound of passives so I watched your video and now have the best of both worlds having active and passive. All uhe best to you and your son,rock on!!

Thanks for the great video! I recently purchased a guitar that already had an EMG pickup installed. When I received the guitar I found out the original passive pickup had been disconnect. I could not figure out how to reconnect it to the new pickup with solderless pots. The guitar did not come with the io board/pickup bus. Once I found one, I watched your video, installed it just like you show and now it works great! Thanks again!

I love how you use electronics to have quality father son time. That's so awesome. Could you do a 25k vs 50k comparison in active guitar pickups? Thanks.
@user-rs7tv5lq5v3 ай бұрын
Ik I’m late but just adding my two cents, not too much of a difference, I have a emg81 in a guitar with a 24v mod with 50k pots and they work good and a emg40csx in a bass with 100k pots and it works decently good. Only difference is the higher the pot the more it works closer to a on/off switch. As to a tone difference I can’t say definitively if there is a difference but i did it anyway

Thank you! This is great. Could you please make a wiring diagram available for everyone? Also, is it better to wire the guitar's ground wire to any ground point of the circuit? Can anyone answer this question, please? Once again, thank you so much for this video.

I can't see. Did you cut the electronics cover or the body to get that battery sticking out? Great idea! I want to do it to my electronics cover if I can!

Most all electric guitars with a humbucker use 500k vol. pots. An EMG 81 active uses a 25K vol. pot. So the only real good way to attempt this is the have 2 volume pots on the guitar like a Les Paul. The EMG w/ 25K and the passive neck pickup with a 250K or 500K pot. Control volume pots independently when in the middle pick up position.
@ivanzivanovic40132 жыл бұрын
so the passive neck pickup just runs at "full" volume due to not being connected to the volume pot? Although i see that you connected the switch to the IO board. So that would make the Passive pickup go through a 25k pot instead of the regular higher rated 250-500k pots for passives...correct?

I'm very confused where the tremolo ground wire goes. I have the EMG 3 way solderless switch. I just don't understand how the tremolo ground wire attaches to the switch sense its supposed to be solderless. Do I just not use it? I'm a newbie to this haha,
@andresenes Жыл бұрын
i have the same doubt but i think the best option is to connect the tremolo ground to any ground point of the EMG circuit. maybe cut a small section of one of the ground cables and solder the tremolo ground to it. maybe....

Is there any tonal difference when using both active and passive pickups? Does active pickup dominate the passive pickups sound, can you hear clearly the difference between both pickups or only the active. Im interested in trying this but i want to hear when both pickups are in use
@MoremanovaTk8 жыл бұрын
Active pickups will provide a significant boost to the output. They essentially provide an extra pre-amp stage to your amp. Unfortunately, they compress much faster because of this, and thus are poor for pretty much anything but high gain tones.

Nice vid! Great idea on the battery placement. Would I be able to wire up my Ibanez RG550 HSH with 1 volume , 1tone , and 5 way switch this way? Right now I'm running an active bridge only and the middle and neck are disconnected and are both passive. Basically can a passive single middle pickup be added in? Your advice would be appreciated greatly. Thank you for posting this how to video I think it will be really helpful in getting my guitar fully functional again.

also how do you wire the passive if you don't originally have a passive installed?
@sinned18917 жыл бұрын
im a bit confused active pups used 25k pots and passive mostly 250k or 500k pots. my point is does the passive pups becomes weak.
@kenr.b.8915 жыл бұрын
If you wire a passive to the 25K volume pot, the output of the passive is much weaker than when hooked up to a 250k or 500k pot. The passive pickup acts like it is turned half way up even when the volume knob is at full. I know this because that is how a previous owner wired one of my guitars. What I do not know, is what would happen if you hooked a active pickup to 250k or 500k. Maybe someone else can chime in and answer that.
@KFGatica4 жыл бұрын
@@kenr.b.891 250k or 500K pots will act as an on off switch to the active pickup if I’m not mistaken, meaning no go.

So might I ask, because I've been told its finnicky to do it this way, now I'm not going through a warlock I'm going through an Ibanez but it seemed super simple to install with the solderless kit, anything I should be aware of when doing this?

You will need a 25k volume knob for the active pickup and a 250 or 500k volume knob for the passive pickup.
