I have found with fission plastic that I need to take about ten grams off the weight you'd normally throw. I bag a 173 neutron Crave and a 160 fission. Close flight paths, but the fission is slightly more flippy, but it absolutely goes further than the neutron. Fantastic discs.
@FlippyJamesDG Жыл бұрын
Need to find a fission in lighter weight and try it for sure.
@mmdoof Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Fission doesn't really lose stability compared to max weight "normal" plastic until you go below 160g. Don't be scared to try the low weights, even 140 class discs usually have good stability as long as your form is smooth. Also the thing about Fission's stability is, it usually has very similar high speed stability, but it's the ending fade where the difference shows. If you're good at producing spin, even the 11 speeds can produce a midrange-like straight finish.

The more stable runs in Proton or Plasma are my go-to laser beam hyzerflip discs in the 95-115 meter range. A beat up one will do the same line but finishes turned over, a very important shot in the woods. With forehand, I keep to distances between 75-100m. It's basically the disc I throw on the lines where an MPO player would throw a midrange. I used to have very beat up ones for wide turnovers and rollers, but I lose a lot of discs, so nowadays I just use the Rhythm for those shots (and it flies considerably farther, too!) Also if I have a hard tailwind, I can just smash on a Crave and get distance driver distance on a very narrow line. A light Fission Crave is obviously the ideal disc for this.
@FlippyJamesDG Жыл бұрын
I’m amazed at how much I like throwing it forehand. I might end up getting the fission one back out and giving it another try. Big fan of proton.
@mmdoof Жыл бұрын
@@FlippyJamesDG yeah, not too many discs in that speed and stability range are as easy to throw forehand. Just a tiny bit of hyzer is enough to keep it from turning over. Very dependable disc in the woods. Also the flat top of the Proton and Plasma versions is neat.
@dougadamsau Жыл бұрын
Interesting! Thanks for the video. As a Crave fan (have way too many), the two Protons I own are easily more OS than any of the others. Fissions fly a little further. Plasma are dead straight. Neutron / Hokom’s are a bit all over the place. Old Neutrons (pre-Hokom) fly a nice S shape. R2’s fly similar to old Neutrons. Never seen an Eclipse Crave. Conclusion - Craves are run dependent 😂

I might have to get the fission one back out, just not sure if I’m a fan of how it feels. Beating in this proton one though. Do you prefer fission?
@moidg Жыл бұрын
I find weight differences in the Fission plastic will make more of a difference than in other plastics. 150-160g Fission will flip fast straight from the factory, even more so when beat in. Plasma I find will flip at a normal amount, and more when beat in. Neutron are for sure the most stable, especially the Sarah Hokom run. I don't use it very often as it barely flips and if I want something to fade that fast I'd just go for a Volt or Shock. Craves are mostly for flip or straight shots. I haven't thrown a Proton Crave yet though.
@FlippyJamesDG Жыл бұрын
I played yesterday and I think the proton is going to beat in nice.
@mmdoof Жыл бұрын
The first Hokom run had some very flippy ones, but after that, they've been pretty much spot on with the flight numbers. I loved my first Hokoms for backhand hyzerflip turnovers, but I couldn't find replacements. Now there's the Rhythm that flies very close to that. Protons have a tad less turn, and looking at wing shapes at the store, Plasma looks similarly more stable.

The flat top ones usually have a very FD-like flight, so Protons and Plasmas. I replaced the TL with the Crave back in the day when Plasma Craves were board flat and stable and the Crave was almost more overstable than the TL, close to 2nd run FD but a little less glide.

There are 2 holes specifically that are my Crave shots. One is called the "Green Monster," currently hole 16 at Oak Grove. Off the tepid you have to hit a 45 degree angle on anhyzer to clear some tall trees, which then allows the disc to arch back into the fairway about 200 more feet to the pin. The other is a desert hole, currently 14, that forces a blind hyzer shot to hit an island pin. Blind from the tee pad. You throw and listen for chains. My Sarah Hokum Crave is money. BUT.... I need something faster that flies further. Crave can go dead straight and fade forward for me. I am looking at an Opto Air River right now. 7 7 -1 1.
