A handsome man meets a beautiful woman. They met unexpectedly during an IELTS exam they were both taking and let’s just say, they decided to endure many tests afterwards - test of time, test of distance - to make sure their relationship is strong. A few weeks ago, they finally tied the knot. I believe that there is a beautiful story behind this beautiful couple. However, on that day, I saw another strong chemistry in between a series of moving moments - and that was between the bride and her best friends. So I thought it would be nice to hear from one of them. Here is Melissa, Viena’s maid of honor.
“I struggle to find the words to describe the relationship that my best friend, Viena (or Cruti, as she’s more affectionately known) share for the past thirteen years. It’s a long time, but it felt like a blink of an eye. Time does fly when we’re having fun. She has always known how to be the best friend I needed. And we simply cannot live without each other. (I hope she knows this as much as I do.)
At one point, her wedding day felt like a dark cloud looming above my head. As she takes on a new role as Ivan’s wife, I know that things will never be the same between us. I am definitely going to miss our random chit chats in her freezing room, talking endless nonsense and everything in between, and picturing how our lives would look like twenty years later. I’m going to miss telling her what to wear or mentally cataloging the items she has in her wardrobe and recalling them when she cannot decide what to wear. I’m going to miss her very much - and I’m not going to lie about that. But everything changed the moment I realize how happy Ivan makes her. He loves her with so much passion, more than anything else in this world, more than himself. And it also made me feel so much better knowing that Ivan was never going to take my place as her best friend and partner in crime.
I have put up (gladly!) with Cruti for the half of our lives and I guess that I happily passed on the baton to her husband on the day of their wedding. My best friend was the most gorgeous bride in the whole entire world that night and her husband looked like the happiest man to get to stand beside her. I cannot wait to see what lies in their future - five, ten, fifteen, twenty years from then - and I hope that I will still be a part of it. I’ll stand on the sidelines as I watch my best friend grow her little family (four sons!) and as she waltz through the seasons of her life as a wife and soon, a mother. And that alone would be a privilege already.
