Let me see if I understand this. This guy doesn't have a wing, so he has to rely on the wake to start moving. Once he's moving, he can do anything, go in any direction, even without any wind as long as he bounces up and down to maintain momentum? So what happens if he's wingless, windless, and wakeless, and falls in the water...does he have to swim to shore? And if there is wind, and he has a wing...from being dead in the water, does he jump to his feet, at the same time throwing the wing out to catch the breeze...is that how 'foil surfers start out? Fascinated by this sport ever since I saw Laird Hamilton doing it on a big wave.
@codyl14325 ай бұрын
It's a hydrofoil the wing is underwater and has nothing to do with using wind.
@Enonymouse_5 ай бұрын
@codyl1432 propulsion isn't free, a foil underneath wouldn't give them this much without falling off eventually and losing all forward motion. There is an active element we are not seeing, not talking about the wake either.
@david-o6g1h5 ай бұрын
@@Enonymouse_ So no one's answered my question yet...so he maintains momentum by jumping up and down and/or using a handheld wing/sail. If he falls, and there's no wind, there's no other recourse than to swim towards shore, right?

I do not believe these are e-assist foils, the riders dock started and pumped out to the wake. Foils are incredibly efficient, it is also fairly difficult requiring not only good conditioning and balance but tons of time in the water to become moderately proficient.
